This project will provide scholarship funds for Melrose - covering her school-related expenses. This will help ensure that she stays in school. Hundreds of girls drop out of school each year due to poverty and pregnancy. Your support will help ensure that Melrose completes another year of education.
Only 56 percent of Sierra Leonean girls aged 15 to 24 are literate, compared to 73 percent of boys in the same age range, according to the United Nations. Unaffordable school fees and related expenses are among the primary reasons why many drop out and marry young. Because of poverty, their parents simply are not able to cover these expenses
This project will provide the needed funds to ensure that Melrose can stay in school. It will cover her school-related expenses for one year - ensuring that she does not drop out of school.
Melrose will be able to stay in school and further her education. When she is educated, the statistics show that she'll marry later, and have a smaller, healthier family. For every year she stays in school, her income will increase by 10% and she'll invest 90% of that money back into her family.
