Fifteen-year-old Thi wakes up at 5 a.m. every day. <\/p>\n

She has to leave her house 30 minutes later to make it to class by 6:30. <\/p>\n

Thi makes that hour-long commute to her school in the mountainous village of Khanh Son, Vietnam by bicycle.<\/p>\n

But she\u2019s always on time, and her teachers say she\u2019s a great student. When there are afternoon classes, other students go home for lunch and the traditional midday rest before returning to school. With her home so far away, Thi takes her food with her in the morning and stays at the school to rest. <\/p>\n

Thi treats going to school like something special because, for her, it is. Everyone in her family either never went to school or dropped out at an early age. She won\u2019t continue the trend. She plans to go to high school next year\u2014which means she’ll beat the education odds for girls like her from ethnic minority groups in Vietnam\u2019s rural villages. <\/p>\n

$57 buys a bike for another girl who wants to go to school like Thi.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
