Last year, my organization Zartonk-89<\/a> organized GivingTuesday Armenia. We were excited by uniqueness of the movement in the United States, as well as around the world. With many countries participating, this movement makes the idea of charitable giving more perceptible. In Armenia, we were encouraged to get involved by leveraging the impact of social networks. <\/p>\n

To launch GivingTuesday Armenia, we first planned meetings with the representatives of different sectors and share the success of this movement with them.<\/p>\n

Schools in different regions of Armenia partnered with us to join the GivingTuesday movement, including the “Union of School Centers,\u201d which is a network of schools in all the regions of Armenia.<\/p>\n

After that, we hosted a meeting in Yerevan with representatives of NGOs, schools, small businesses, companies, and foundations. Each person was given an opportunity to introduce the ways to join the movement and their role in GivingTuesday.<\/p>\n

Here are several tips you’ll find useful to sparking a GivingTuesday movement in your country or community:<\/h3>\n

Take initiative.<\/h4>\n

GivingTuesday is a wonderful opportunity to share the ideas you want to make real that day. During GivingTuesday, you can try to materialize something new. Sometimes, we have ideas, but we cannot answer the question when and how to materialize them. It is high time to make the wishes true and be motivators. In my opinion, being a worldwide movement should mean different countries organize their own activities around their giving culture. It\u2019s interesting to follow how GivingTuesday is celebrated in different communities and how they plan their steps beforehand. <\/p>\n

Be inclusive.<\/h4>\n

Individuals, schools, universities, organizations, representatives of small businesses\u2014everyone\u2014can join GivingTuesday. Being involved in any sector, you will have a chance to participate in this campaign or become a partner. There is no age limit in GivingTuesday. When I started this campaign in Armenia, the first participants were children. They were taking pictures with the heart-shaped logo very enthusiastically and shared with their friends. <\/p>\n

Set clear goals.<\/h4>\n

This point is especially important for nonprofits. Your goal must be clear and measurable. Invite donors\u2019 attention to this important day, and for sure, make donations of your own. GivingTuesday gives nonprofits an opportunity to find new donors and make them excited about the work you do. I think the involvement of the project constituents in the campaign makes it more sincere and it becomes more interesting to listen to them. <\/p>\n

Plan your strategy.<\/h4>\n

There are different ideas, resources, and social platforms that can be included in this campaign. Every participating sector must plan clearly at which period of time what activities must be conducted, such as informing the donors through email and social media, creating informative video clips, conducting discussions, hosting events, and more. Let\u2019s also remember that GivingTuesday is not only a unique day, it also gives an opportunity to show the world your enthusiasm. <\/p>\n

Use social media.<\/h4>\n

Participants can share their short stories on different social media platforms, direct their speech to donors and, of course, use the GivingTuesday heart-shaped logo<\/a>. Using the hashtag<\/a>, one can see the events which are happening that day. The #Unselfie tool in the GivingTuesday social media toolkit<\/a> makes the movement more interesting and powerful. You can also organize an online streaming. <\/p>\n

Don’t forget to celebrate and have fun.<\/h4>\n

GivingTuesday is a celebration. Celebrate this day with your family, friends, and co-workers. Just have fun and spread your wishes throughout the world. Remember that your small step may have a huge influence. <\/p>\n

Get your appreciation speech ready!<\/h4>\n

The end of GivingTuesday is the best time thank everyone, especially those people or organizations that showed their support and made the day unique for you and your community. <\/p>\n
