O<\/big>ne year ago, Gordon and Tiana\u2019s home in Texas filled with over a foot of debris and dirty water from Hurricane Harvey<\/a>.<\/strong> On a tight budget, with no flood insurance and little aid from FEMA, their family had no resolution for repairs in sight.<\/p>\n

One year ago, Jos\u00e9 lost his seaside restaurant and his livelihood in the blink of an eye when Hurricane Maria<\/a> made landfall just a few miles from his home in Puerto Rico, lashing the island with 155 mph winds.<\/p>\n

One year ago, Rosa and Ram\u00f3n\u2019s home in Mexico collapsed under the pressure of the most powerful earthquake<\/a> to hit their country in a century. Engineers told the couple they\u2019d tear down their house, and Rosa and Ram\u00f3n were on the brink of homelessness.<\/p>\n

2017 was one of the most deadly and damaging years for natural disasters on record,<\/strong> with severe weather and climate events taking thousands of lives and causing more than $300 billion in damages in the United States alone.<\/p>\n

The GlobalGiving community responded swiftly, and with your help, we supported more than 100 urgent relief projects in the hardest-hit communities.<\/p>\n

Gordon and Tiana gutted and replaced mold-infested walls and installed new appliances<\/a>. Jos\u00e9 held on to hope despite all he lost and developed a plan for his future<\/a>. Rosa and Ram\u00f3n received locally-sourced construction materials and a crew of volunteers to rebuild their collapsed walls<\/a>.<\/p>\n

On the anniversary of these major disasters, GlobalGiving is celebrating awe-inspiring progress toward recovery\u2014and asking for your continued help to support long-term, local projects in the communities devastated by these disasters.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
