Natural disasters have the power to devastate communities, and impacted families often spend years rebuilding their lives in the aftermath. Luckily, there are always people ready to help! And your small businesses can play a critical role.<\/p>\n

Here are nine steps small business owners can take to raise funds for disaster survivors:<\/em><\/p>\n

1. Set SMART goals.<\/h4>\n

Set you and your business up for success by setting SMART fundraising goals<\/a>. Here’s what each step of the acronym stands for:<\/p>\n

S<\/strong>pecific: Describe exactly what you\u2019d like to achieve.<\/p>\n

M<\/strong>easurable: Quantify your fundraising goal.<\/p>\n

A<\/strong>ctionable: Specify what actions you will take to achieve your goal.<\/p>\n

R<\/strong>ealistic: Be ambitious, but don\u2019t set a goal that you can\u2019t realistically achieve with your available resources.<\/p>\n

T<\/strong>ime-Bound: Schedule a fundraising start and end date to create a sense of urgency and motivate yourself and your donors.<\/p>\n

2. Get creative.<\/h4>\n

From knitting challenges to garden parties, there are many ways your business can do good\u2014and have fun doing it. See how others have incorporated creative ideas into their fundraising<\/a>.<\/p>\n

3. Determine how you will collect donations.<\/h4>\n
