You’re Invited: #LiteracyGoesGlobal Twitter Chat On International Literacy Day

Aug 16, 2018

Join the GlobalGiving community on International Literacy Day, Sept. 8, for a conversation with education leaders from around the world.

All over the world, different organizations are working toward a common goal: education for all. No matter someone’s age, background, or ability, everyone deserves quality and accessible education.

International Literacy Day, celebrated every year on Sept. 8, is an important opportunity for your nonprofit to raise awareness of your work, share your success, and let your community know how much you appreciate them. This year, GlobalGiving is hosting a Twitter chat alongside Puerta Abierta, WISER International, and Golden Baobab to share lessons and best practices in education and literacy work.

At GlobalGiving, we believe nonprofits work more effectively when they work together. Join us and nonprofits from dozens of countries for a Twitter chat called #LiteracyGoesGlobal: Lessons from Education Leaders Around the World on Sept. 8, 2018 from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. EST.

We’ll explore these questions:

1. Introduce yourself and your organization. Where in the world do you work, and how do you promote literacy and education?

2. Tell us about your community. What are some of the largest barriers to literacy in your area?

3. How does a toxic or difficult environment affect the literacy process, and how can you overcome these effects?

4. How do you ensure children receive a culturally inclusive and balanced education?

5. How do new technologies and digital platforms affect literacy in your community?

6. Explain a time when your nonprofit tried something new related to literacy or education and it didn’t work. What did you learn?

7. Share a success story from your nonprofit. What inspired you about this story?

8. Considering everything you’ve learned from working in education, what is your top piece of advice for your peers around the world?

Never participated in a Twitter chat before? Not a problem! Here’s a step-by-step guide that will get you started.
