Campaign Details

How can we ensure a safer and more equitable world? Family and friends who lost loved ones in the 9/11 terror attacks 20 years ago answered this question by starting the Safer World Fund and campaign.

Years later, this campaign still supports GlobalGiving projects in Afghanistan and Pakistan that are improving access to education, economic opportunity, and health care— especially among women and girls. It promotes greater connection and well-being among community members. Today, nonprofit leaders need our help more than ever.

Donate and your gift will be matched, while funds remain.

Organization & Project Eligibility

Select Partner, Leader, and Superstar organizations with relevant projects in Afghanistan and Pakistan are invited to participate in the campaign, alongside the GlobalGiving-sponsored Safer World Fund.

One to two active projects or microprojects associated with eligible organizations will be included on the campaign leaderboard.

Dates & Deadlines

GlobalGiving’s Safer World Fund Matching Campaign 2021 will begin on September 1, 2021, at 09:00:00 EDT and will end when matching funds run out, or on September 30, 2021, at 00:00:00 EDT, whichever comes first.

Disbursement of funds raised and awarded in this campaign will be included in the usual monthly disbursement process.

Matching Funds

The Safer World Fund Matching Campaign 2021 will have a Matching Fund of $40,000 USD.

While funds remain, the following matching structure will apply:

  • Donations up to $1,000 USD per unique donor per organization from donors who have not previously donated to a project on GlobalGiving.org will be matched at 100%
  • All other eligible donations up to $1,000 USD per unique donor per organization will be matched at 50%

Donations will be matched based on the order in which they are received while funds last. Remaining funds will be displayed on the leaderboard throughout the campaign and updated every 3 minutes.

Limitations

  • Donations above $1,000 USD will be matched on the first $1,000 USD while funds last. The match offer is restricted to donations made by unique donors per organization.
  • Each organization can receive a maximum of $10,000 USD in total Matching Funds to benefit as many partners as possible.

Verification

Unique donors are determined using numerous criteria, including name, email address, credit card number, mailing address, and IP address. We are monitoring these and other parameters in our system to ensure that only distinct donors are counted.

For the purposes of calculating matching amounts, donations made in other currencies will be converted to USD. The exchange rate will be estimated at the time of the donation, but may be subject to change until the donation settles with the donor’s bank or credit card. Funds will be disbursed using the exchange rate based on the settlement value of each transaction.

In your GlobalGiving donation manager, donations that count towards your total raised during the Safer World Fund Matching Campaign 2021 campaign (based on the time the donation was made and the method of payment) will be marked with a plus sign.

GlobalGiving reserves the right to make final decisions on all matters concerning the allocation of the Matching Fund.

Monthly Giving Match

GlobalGiving’s 100% Monthly Match is also available to the GlobalGiving nonprofit community for all of 2021. New monthly donations set up during the Safer World Fund Matching Campaign 2021 will be eligible for both the immediate match outlined by these terms, and the one-time 100% match (up to $200) to be received after four monthly payments!

Donation Methods & Eligibility

Please note that all donations are final. GlobalGiving cannot change the time, date, or status of a donation after it is processed for any reason.

Any activity not in the spirit of requesting separate individuals to support donations is being moderated by GlobalGiving and GlobalGiving reserves the right to permanently disqualify organizations for any attempts of misconduct.

Eligible Donations

Donations made to a project using any of the following methods will count towards your total raised during the Safer World Fund Matching Campaign 2021:

Donations must be made by the account or credit card holder.

Ineligible Donations

Donations received via any other methods will not count towards your total raised during the Safer World Fund Matching Campaign 2021. Ineligible donation methods include, but are not limited to: physical checks, cash donations, wire transfers, CAF checks and CAF Online, donations made on a GlobalGiving corporate or organizational giving site, and donations made directly to an organization rather than a project

Tax Efficient Giving

Tax Efficiency

GlobalGiving is a registered nonprofit charity in the United States and England and Wales. Donations made by eligible donors in the United States can be claimed as tax deductible contributions on United States tax returns. Donations made by eligible donors in the United Kingdom can claim Gift Aid (an extra 25% added to eligible donations by the UK Government) when they donate in GBP.

Fulfillment Fee

GlobalGiving charges a minimal nonprofit support fee plus a 3% processing fee. For US and UK registered organizations, the nonprofit support fee is 5%; for organizations outside the US and UK, it is 7%. During the Safer World Fund Matching Campaign 2021, the fee only applies to the initial donation and not to bonus prizes or matching funds earned. The fee helps cover the costs we incur to promote your organization and projects, to provide you with fundraising training and tools, and to maintain and improve our online technology in order to keep you connecting with new donors.
