What is the Evaluation Program?

“This program was the best experience of my life. I could not have imagined how much I would learn, how much I was challenged and how much I would grow. You cannot regret doing this program.” (Ella, Project Evaluator 2015)

The GlobalGiving Evaluation Program is designed for skilled individuals with international work/travel experience. GlobalGiving seeks  pro-active, positive people looking to challenge themselves, learn new skills,  and apply their knowledge to make practical, sustained impact on the ground.

What Does a Project Evaluator Do?

Traveling for a period of two-to-ten weeks, Project Evaluators complete in-depth organizationalassessments and communications work for GlobalGiving partners all over the world. These assessments help our partners promote their work to new audiences, access relevant professional support and improve their effectiveness for the long term.

Prior to their visits, volunteers review the project partner’s existing materials and activities on GlobalGiving and liaise directly with the organizations to plan the visit for maximum value. Partner visits consist of interviews, observations, text based research, analysis, and report writing.

Before carrying out assessments, volunteers:

  • receive six days of professional, intensive training and individual one-to-one support. The training includes training on soft and technical skills to successfully complete organizational evaluation, discussions with external experts and practical exercises;
  • receive one-to-one expert support preparing them for the projects they will visit;
  • generate bespoke itineraries through communicating with the partner projects they will visit.

During the Evaluation Program, volunteers:

  • conduct interviews with staff members and volunteers;
  • identify training and support needs;
  • ensure a good assessment of a project's transparency and effectiveness, including: past and projected impact, financial transparency, governance, staff and volunteer development, fundraising, networking and administration;
  • support partners’ to improve their communications with current and prospective donors;
  • write a high quality external audit report for each partner visited, ensuring the highest level of professionalism;
  • increase awareness of GlobalGiving and the partners visited through digital media content. This includes writing a blog and social media;
  • share detailed knowledge and skills in maximising the utility of GlobalGiving to successfully raise funds for our incredible project partners; and
  • carry out a fundraising and communications workshop for nonprofit organizations.(Training and support is provided by GlobalGiving to help ensure these are fun and effective for all!).

After the Evaluation Program, volunteers:

  • attend an individual and group debrief session to share learning, experiences and recommendations for the Program; and
  • join the GlobalGiving Alumni network (if they wish).
