AFFORD Diaspora

Terms + Conditions

Crowdfunding Campaign Structure:

• AFFORD Diaspora Accelerator is a crowdfunding campaign for eligible African diaspora nonprofits to raise funds for their charitable project between Monday, 26th March, 2018 (14:00:00 BST) and Wednesday, 30th May, 2018 (14:00:00 BST)
• Eligible projects that raise at least GBP 3,000 from at least 40 unique donors during the AFFORD Diaspora Accelerator and complete the due diligence approval process will become a permanent partner on GlobalGiving.
• Projects that are unable to raise at least GBP 3,000 from at least 40 unique donors during the AFFORD Diaspora Accelerator will be retired after Wednesday, 30th May, 2018 (14:00:00 BST).
• Projects that received at least one donation in the AFFORD Diaspora Accelerator and have valid due diligence through July 2018 will be invited to participate in the following GlobalGiving Accelerator campaign.
• Most Funds Raised Prizes: At the conclusion of the Accelerator, the top three projects that raise the most funds will receive a bonus prize of GBP 1,500, GBP 750, and GBP 500 respectively.
• Most Unique Donors Prize: At the conclusion of the Accelerator, the top project with the most unique donors will be awarded GBP 750.
• Projects must raise at least GBP 3,000 from 40 unique donors in the AFFORD Diaspora Accelerator to be eligible for prizes.

Donation Methods & Eligibility:

• Online donations, including GlobalGiving gift cards, will be accepted throughout the duration of the AFFORD Diaspora Accelerator. Online donations made by credit card, debit card, PayPal, and Apple Pay must be made by the account or credit card holder.

• Cheques:
• Cheques received in the GlobalGiving UK offices by Tuesday 15 May, 2018 will be included in the AFFORD Diaspora Accelerator and will count towards the number of unique donors for each project. Cheques received after said date will be applied to the indicated project, but there is no guarantee they will count towards the AFFORD Diaspora Accelerator thresholds.
• Send cheques to GlobalGiving's London office:
• Make payable to: GlobalGiving UK
• Mail to: GlobalGiving UK, 6 Great James St, London, WC1N 3DA, UK
• The project ID and project name to which the funds should be applied should be indicated on the back of the cheque with the email address if the donor would like to get email updates on the project.
• Amount: GlobalGiving accepts cheques issued in the United Kingdom at and above £5 GBP. GlobalGiving's London office will not cheques from outside the United Kingdom in amounts less than £50 GBP or equivalent in the local currency.
• Wire transfers will be treated like cheques and the same rules apply. Please contact lzapula@globalgiving.org for details.
• The following forms of donations will not count towards the AFFORD Diaspora Accelerator: Cash donations, donations through the JustGiving API and text-to-give donations.
• Please note that all donations are final. GlobalGiving cannot change the time, date, or status of a donation after it is processed for any reason.
• Any activity not in the spirit of requesting separate individuals to support donations is being moderated by GlobalGiving, and GlobalGiving reserves the right to permanently disqualify organizations for any attempts of misconduct.
• Unique donors are determined using numerous criteria, including name, email address, credit card number, mailing address, and IP address. We are monitoring these and other parameters in our system to ensure that only unique, distinct donors are counted towards the AFFORD Diaspora Accelerator thresholds and cash prizes.
• Any transactions that are reported as fraudulent and/or reversed jeopardizes your participation and GlobalGiving retains the discretion to disqualify your organization from the AFFORD Diaspora Accelerator.

Disbursements:

• The exchange rate will be estimated at the time of the donation, but may be subject to change until the donation settles with the donor's bank or credit card. Funds will be disbursed using the exchange rate based on the settlement value of each transaction.
• Please note that GlobalGiving maintains the right to make a final decision on all matters concerning the adjudication of unique donors and final results of the AFFORD Diaspora Accelerator. 

Tax Efficient Giving, Gift Aid, Fee, & Vetting:

• Tax Efficient Giving and Gift Aid: GlobalGiving is a registered nonprofit charity in the United States and England and Wales. Donations made by eligible donors in the United States can be claimed as tax deductible contributions on United States tax returns. Donations made by eligible donors in the United Kingdom can claim Gift Aid (an extra 25% added to eligible donations by the UK Government) when they donate in GBP. Gift Aid does not count towards project totals in the Accelerator but will appear in your Donation Manager once payment is received from HMRC (which may take up to 2 months).
• Fees: GlobalGiving charges a 12% nonprofit support fee plus a 3% processing fee on an organization’s first $5,000 (£3,500) raised on the platform. After organizations raise the equivalent of $5,000 on GlobalGiving, the nonprofit support fee is reduced to 5% for US and UK registered organizations and 7% for organizations registered outside the US and UK. The fee does not apply to bonus prizes awarded in the AFFORD Diaspora Accelerator. The GlobalGiving fee helps cover the costs we incur to conduct due diligence, to promote your organization and projects, to provide you with fundraising training and tools, and to maintain and improve our online technology in order to keep you connecting with new donors.
• Vetting: GlobalGiving may conduct additional vetting and due diligence on your organization after your project raises funds in the AFFORD Diaspora Accelerator. You may be required to supply additional documents or information to verify your programs during the campaign. Your organization must complete the due diligence process in order to become a long-term partner on GlobalGiving. If, upon further review, GlobalGiving determines that your organization does not fully comply with our vetting standards, your project may be removed from the site at any time during or after the Accelerator.
