How Goats helped Hameeda survive Covid19

Dear Friends,

We are happy to present our progress report of the project 'Goat for Livelihood support for Poor Women’ which started one year back by Azad India Foundation. We identify the potential women beneficiaries who have no financial support and give them goats to supplement their income.

We had given one pair of goats to Hamida from village Sathbolia, Block Pothia at the inception of the project. She has three children without any steady source of income. She works as a landless labor during the time of the cultivation.

Due to Covid19 pandemic ,Indian government announced total lockdown from the month of March for nearly two months. It created hardships and economic loss of many people especially living in the rural areas of the country. There was no source of income for majority of these people as they relied mainly on agriculture.

AIF team revisited Hamida's  home after the Covid19 lockdown in Kishanganj ended. Hamida said that she sold her goats for Rs 9700 as animal traders were not coming from outside at the local haat. She got good price for her goats which she used for buying ration and food supplies. The goats were her family's life saver and  provided her with money during the time of the crisis. She still has 5 goats left which she said would multiply soon.

We need the funds to reach out to many more women like Hamida.

Donating now will enable us to purchase goats at a fair price and ensure that the women receive the best breed. Goats are bought locally as their chances of survival are highest in Kishanganj.

Warm Regards,

Progress Report

Mantasa
Mantasa

Dear Friends,

Greetings from Azad India Foundation!

It is my pleasure to share our latest report via GlobalGiving on the progress of our project to provide sewing machine to a needy girl for self-reliance in Kishanganj district of Bihar. Thank you for your support and for empowering women to rise out of poverty. A sewing machine may be a simple gift but it is life changing for many women and their families.

As a part of the ongoing livelihood support program, Azad India Foundation had given sewing machine to Anwari from village Chattargach.

The project team revisited her home after 3months to see the impact of the donation. With her sewing machine she is earning Rs 10,000 (approx. $100-120) per month by taking orders from the local tailors and support her family. The project team also visited Rumi from Chattargach Miya basti to see her progress.

Rumi is earning Rs 6000-6500 (approx. $90) per month supporting her family.

Mantasa from village Motihara is earning Rs 5000-6000 (approx. $90) per month.

Anwari, Mantasa and Rumi are thankful to the donors and GlobalGiving for their support.

Azad India Foundation is running three sewing centers at the village Chattargach, Bahadurganj and Kishanganj where 100 girls are learning basic stitching and tailoring. It is six-month course following which a girl can start earning from her home. As most of the girls belong to marginalized sections of the community they are unable to buy machines. This project helps them to realize their dreams.

Thank you for giving chance to succeed! Your gift is making a big impact in not only their life but given hope others as well. Even a small donation has a potential to empower the whole family to earn sustainable income.

Do contribute to help us give life of dignity to more disadvantaged girls and please spread the word.

Warm Regards,

Rumi

Hamida with her Goats

Dear Friends,

We are happy to present our progress report of the project 'Goat for Livelihood support for Poor Women’ which started almost two years back by Azad India Foundation. We identify the potential women beneficiaries who have no financial support and give them goats to supplement their income.

We had given 1 pair of goats to Hamida from village Sathbolia, Block Pothia at the inception of the project. She is a divorcee deserted by her husband. She has three children without any steady source of income. She works as a landless labor during the time of the cultivation.

AIF team revisited her home after three months. Hamida has sold five of her goats for Rs 6700 for buying ration and food supplies and to pay for her own medical treatment. She is really grateful to GlobalGiving for the support she had received and helped her in dire straits.

We need the funds to reach out to many more women like Hamida.

Donating now will enable us to purchase goats at a fair price and ensure that the women receive the best breed. Goats are bought locally as their chances of survival are highest in Kishanganj.
