Investing in Children with Disabilities

Dear Friends,

I hope you are doing great,we are also faring on well and doing what we do best. In this update,we would like to inform you about our new direction of investing in children with disabilities.

We reckon that the future of disability movement both in Kenya and globally, will depend on the kind of investment we make in children with disability now.It is in this view that your continued support is critical towards securing the same future for generations to come.

We have made a decision to concentrate on issues of education for children with disabilities so that they can grow up into successful adults taking on leadership in various sectors of the economy. This means that from a small age, they will need to be rehabilitated based on the different type of disability they have and given necessary assistive device they need to be able to lead independent lives and attend school just as any other child.

With your support,we will continue offering walking aids, wheelchairs and other implements that will enable Children to overcome various challenges to excel in life. We also offer sporting activities in schools that enable Children with Disabilities to play alongside their colleagues who do not have any disability and thus facilitating an inclusive atmosphere that promotes an understanding of diversity from a young age while building friendships.

Soon we will launch a separate campaign focusing on education of this target group and count on you to inform friends around you who are interested in matters of education for marginalized populations such as children with disabilities.

Thank you so much for standing with our initiative, you are the souls that keep our work on-going and we appreciate your partnership.

Reaching the Unreached

Receiving a white cane
Receiving a white cane

Dear Friend,

We want to thank you for remaining steadfast in supporting the work that we do here in Kenya,it is through your commitment to this work that we were able to reach a population that would ordinarily be left out of any development project that goes on in our society.

No one thinks about prisoners who have a disability in our prisons, but through your support;the project was able to identify the needs of these prisoners who were lacking essential assistive devices that can help them navigate their way while serving their prison terms.

We found out that majority of them were lacking wheelchairs, white canes, amongst other essentials which made their prison-life very inhuman considering that one had to crawl down through dirty floors or wait on their fellows for them to get directions around the prison facility for those who are blind.

We believe that a prison is a correctional facility and should therefore not be a dehumanising facility for those with a disability. This is exactly what your support has enabled us achieve when we visited the Kamiti Maximum Prison and donated wheelchairs and other assistive devices.

Your contributions has enabled us impact positively the lives of prisoners with disabilities at Kamitti Maximum Prison,we cant thank you enough on their behalf.

We look forward to your continued support and those of friends in carrying on with this kind of work that is dearly needed in our society.

Thank you so much

Excited About Change

Greetings from the field,

I thought it would be a nice thing to feed you-in with a few things we are handling at the moment. It is indeed an exciting moment for the organization to re-think our strategic direction in terms of the work we do within the community. We have had an opportunity to look inward, around our environment and the outside world as we position ourselves to create impact in our community.

Our board and the staff believe that we have a unique opportunity to influence lives of thousands of persons with disabilities through a two-pronged approach. This will mainly be through education and sustainable livelihoods and putting a key focus on children with disabilities and young people.

We are currently refining these strategies and will be able to share with all of you at an appropriate time in the next two months or so,we have also come up with a particular strategy to address our work on issues of disability and employment. The strategy is going to enable us scale our work and apply the use of technology to accelerate employment of persons with disabilities across board.

All this cannot be possible without your support, the donations that you continuously give to this project allow us to facilitate the mobility of persons with disabilities within our programs so that they can lead independent lives and take up other challenges in nation building.

We thank you exceedingly for your commitment to this course and continue counting on your support
