A great vehicle to transport the children

children honoring the car.
children honoring the car.

Dear Supporters,

It’s now 5 months that we have been using our Toyota Quantum to carry the underprivileged children from the village to the Bush School. We can’t tell you how much difference it makes in term of safety to have such a car to carry our little students. When fetching the children at the village they are all waving at us when they see the Daktari car passing through the village. They know we care for their safety and all look forward to take a ride which will bring them to Daktari experience.

This week of education is the last week of the year for Daktari to welcome children and it will be time for the car to go for its first service. The car is taken care of like a precious stone as we wouldn’t be able to operate without it.

The monthly repayment for the vehicle is still very heavy and it will cost around $ 474 per month for the next five years. We need to bring this repayment down to become sustainable. Your contribution toward the heavy instalment is crucial for us as the loan was taken as an emergency solution.

We thank you for your support in continuing helping us to cover the cost of the purchase of this vital tool. The car to pick up and drop off children is definitely a resource we can’t do without.

Let us know what you think of our car and give us your advices.

We wish you a Happy Christmas and look forward to hear from you.

Ian and Michele

Predator Camp

The predator camp
The predator camp

Dear Supporters,

It was time to move forward with our cheetah camp project. The cost of the camp to the requirement of the donors of the retired cheetah was far out of our budget and we didn’t want to wait years to give the children the opportunity to admire a predator. A generous sponsor, a few private ones, and your donation gave us enough funds to build a smaller but very decent predator camp.

We went into action, bought supplies and with the man power donated by a Daktari friend the building started. The camp is almost completed and still need a few adjustments. In a few weeks we will be able to advertise the potential home for any predator in need and hopefully we will share our passion for our wildlife with our local children.

The camp is a quarter of a hectare (50m x 50m), has lots of trees, shade and a big water trough. Surely we can already picture a peaceful lion, an active leopard, a majestic cheetah or even a naughty hyena there and can’t wait for the next arrival.

We thank you for your support toward our work and hope you appreciate our move into action to achieve as much as we can for the survival or our rich wildlife protection. You can contact us to let us know how you feel about our decision on the use of your donation.

We will certainly need more camps to be built and will, in time, offer you another animal camp to sponsor through Global Giving. In the mean time you are more than welcome to support us toward our on going running project of covering the cost to welcome underprivileged children for a week of education about environment. You can follow this links below if you would like to carry on supporting our work.

We wish you a happy Christmas with your friends and family and look forward to hear from you.

Challenge Give More, Get More

Daktari is also opportunity for fun!
Daktari is also opportunity for fun!

Dear All,

We would like to thank all of you who have given to our project through the challenge Give More, Get More. We have now received from you a total of $ 1960 matched by Global Giving at $ 438 which will give us a total so far of $ 2398.

This is wonderful and helps so much to continue the project. We could not survive without your contribution and can’t thank you enough for your generosity.

The challenge isn’t finished and we still have to the 1st of December to benefit from donor’s generosity. So if you haven’t made your donation yet, there is still time!!!

We are following the progress every day while still having the children here with us. They all know about your kindness and are very grateful for the opportunity they are given.

Lately we received an orphaned bushbaby. Although it’s a very common animal in the area, most of the children have never seen one. In the children’s village, they have all been exterminated. The children enjoy the cheerful personality of Chico the bushbaby and all hope they will eventually come back in their village. The children’s interaction with Chico is very important and shows them that animals aren’t all dangerous and can also be enjoyable to observe instead of being seen as food or traditional medicine.

We look forward to have your feedback and may be your visit?

Best regards,

Ian and Michele
