Critter Camp Exotic Pet Sanctuary

Critter Camp's Mission is to provide a safe, healthy, happy forever home to unadoptable small exotic and unusual pets. These animals are unadoptable due to advanced age, chronic illness, aggression and/or excessive fearfulness, generally from abuse or neglect. Many come to us from other shelters where they were to be euthanized. Our main goal is to provide care for as many of these forgotten pets as possible. Critter Camp's secondary goal is to educate the public on the needs of these pets for two outcomes. One is to help current pet owners provide better care of their pets, the second is to prevent impulse buying of these types of pets by creating educated potential pet owners. C...

Season's Greeting from Critter Camp!

Boomer & Dale
Boomer & Dale

We hope you have all had a great 2015 and are looking ahead to an even better 2016!

Because of your generous support Critter Camp has been able to save hundreds more small pets' lives this year!

We cannot thank you enough for caring about these small and unusual pets that often fall through the cracks and are forgotten.

Because of the uniqueness of our organization we do not qualify for 99% of animal welfare grants- many require no exotic, or are spay/neuter for dogs & cats only, or they only fund adoption rescues and not sanctuary. This is why your support is so crucial to our organization.

We took some fun holiday photos with the animals and we'll share them with you to hopefully bring a smile to your face!

Thank you!

A Sad Farewell, New babies and Pirates!

RIP Shadow
RIP Shadow

Thank you for your kind responses to our previous update!

We have received initial notes from Animal Arts on our building project and will share the finished reports and plans once we get them. Thank you for helping make the first steps of this project a reality!

We have a bit of sad new - our 15 1/2 year old marble fox Shadow passed away peacefully of old age. We miss him very much!

We celebrated International Talk Like a Pirate Day Spet. 19 here at Critter Camp with cute pics!

We have some baby guinea pigs from pregnant rescue moms  available for adoption as well!

Welcome Mr & Mrs Whiskers, success stories too!

Mr Whiskers
Mr Whiskers

Critter Camp takes in abused neglected injured animals just like any other rescue, we also take in ones on death row in kill facilities- but UNLIKE other rescues we do NOT hold these animals hostage- we never post pics of animals & say we'll save them only if you donate, we don't stop to take horror pics of ones we saved using them to extort donations- we HELP THEM immediately! (We have a few such pics if someone is taking them while another is getting the needed treatment ready) We read over and over that people do not like those tactics- they hate the graphic pics and the promise of death to the animal, and yet they bring in the $ needed to care for those rescues AND they are Shared. One pic of a cat in a kill shelter 'needing $ to be pulled' brings in hundreds of dollars, but when we post that we already saved a rabbit from a kill shelter and it needs to be spayed/neutered apparently everyone thinks someone else is donating because we didn't hold it hostage. So our questions are: Should we start doing that? How can we compel you to donate? Even $5 helps! With 300 sanctuary animals here we go through 1000 lbs of supplies (food, bedding, cleaning items) every week at an average cost of $500 EVERY WEEK, plus our other expenses such as insurance & licenses etc.(NO salaries- we are all Volunteer!) Then the new animals' costs- vet checks, spay/neuters, etc. Show us you don't want us to start using extortion & scare tactics- tell us you LIKE the cute pics & success stories!

We welcome newest rescues Mr & Mrs Whiskers- highly aggresive rabbits that bit and scratched their owner repeatedly. They will be spayed and neutered and re assessed for adoptibility.

We also welcome Leroy the red footed tortoise who was found as a stray. He had metabolic bone disease and we are treating him.

Success Stories: All of the 8 baby ratties and the one baby guinea pig have been adopted! And we were slated to take in an elder bunny from a high kill facility but the transporter saw that he was super friendly and loving so he helped find an adoptive home, andf Muffin is now happy & loved!
