Some cats are rescued more than once in their life. So it is for one special cat named Contessa or Tess for short. In January of 2008, NBCR rescued Tess from the animal shelter when she was just a baby and was adopted her first weekend up at adoptions. In November, Tess was returned to us because her adopters thought she was unhappy in their home with the addition of a new puppy.

Due to the stress of being returned, Tess became even more depressed and stopped eating. She developed a condition called Fatty Liver Disease, which can be brought on by “stress induced lack of eating.” This can be, and sometimes is, a fatal disease even when treated.

A feeding tube was surgically placed into Tess' esophagus and her foster was given the task of syringe-feeding her through the tube every two hours. Within a week she showed great improvement. The foster is happy to report that Tess continues to do well and has begun eating on her own.

Tess currently has a pending adoption application.  Her new Mom is anxious for her to be cleared by the vet so that she can bring her home.

Thank you for supporting New Beginnings Cat Rescue in their efforts to rescue cats.

Though we are grateful for all the other cat rescue organizations that save adoptable cats from being euthanized, the cats that have minor injuries or illnesses are often passed by. They are considered unadoptable. Not so with New Beginnings Cat Rescue. When the local animal shelter determines the condition of a cat is medically treatable, they know they can call upon NBCR.

So it was with this handsome yellow tabby named Link. Link was dropped off at the animal shelter with injuries that appeared to be from an attack by a larger animal. He just needed medical treatment and time to heal in a safe environment. As you can see in the photos, he has made remarkable improvement and is now considered Adoptable.

Thank you for your donations. Because you give to New Beginnings Cat Rescue, these last chance kitties can live a long happy life.

He's not heavy, he's my brother!

Hayworth
Hayworth

When Hayworth aka Stumpy and his sister Sutton aka Siamesy were rescued, little Hayworth was about a third of the size of Sutton. His coat was dry, his fur was thin and he was missing the better part of his front left paw.

Sutton was very protective of her injured brother and wouldn’t let anyone get close to him. After a good Samaritan captured Hayworth, Sutton allowed herself to be captured too. She wanted to be with her brother no matter what situation he was in.

While we aren’t sure what happened to Hayworth’s leg, it has healed nicely and doesn’t seem to bother him. He runs and plays and jumps just like any other kitten would do and it doesn’t slow him down when he wants to playfully attack his sister.

Both Kittens are doing well. Hayworth’s coat is soft and thick and he is now almost as big as his sister. These two kittens are so sweet and gentle and so happy to be alive and safe. Just last weekend, they were adopted together and are doing very well in their new home. Thank you for donating to New Beginnings Cat Rescue. Because you give, more cats can be rescued so they, like Hayworth and Sutton, will not have to suffer from hunger or live out in the cold this winter.
