By Jake Gillanders - Executive Director and Puerto Rico Team Lead
We are so pleased to be able to announce that your support has made this mission possible and has brought essential supplies to thousands of Americans! Today alone, our team in Ciales distributed food and potable water to 625 Puerto Rican families throughout the region! After many logistical hurdles, we are on the ground and pushing supplies directly to those who need it most. We literally could not have done this without you, our supporters. But the mission isn't over! Please share our story with your friends, family, and followers, specially in light of GlobalGiving's annual Bonus Day today, Thursday October 5th. Thank you!
Team Harvey has returned home after much hard work in the Texas-Louisiana border region. After a weeks work and over 70 rescues, we're gearing up for Irma, Jose, Katia, and whatever follows. Our team spent their time in Louisiana and Texas moving between shelters, 5 ton high water trucks, airboats, and their feet; doing whatever it took to get to the most underserved and needy communities in the area. We participated in direct rescues, pet evacuations, medical assessments, and even the evacuation of a 7 1/2 month pregnant woman stranded by the rising water.
Thanks to your support, we were able bring hope to the lost, trapped, stranded, and injured. We couldn't be more proud of our relationship with each of you, and humbled by the trust you put in us.
Thank you for your donation to "Rescue: First 48 Disaster Rescue Initiative". We have decided to close this project to allow us to focus on other fundraising initiatives.
As discussed in previous reports, your donation has helped us expand our program to become the equivalent of FEMA Type III Task Force. We have added new personnel, including a Canine Rescue Program and additional physicians and rescue personnel. All of these enhancements will improve our abiliity to respond to domestic and international disasters.
Your support is vitaly important and allows us to stay prepared so we may respond to the next disaster. Please consider giving to our "Adopt-a-Rescuer" campaign, right here on Global Giving.
