Children of the Night's 2020 Domestic Tutoring

Young Woman Testing for GED At Our Headquarters
Young Woman Testing for GED At Our Headquarters

Our FREE tutoring through ZOOM tutors sex trafficking victims for the high school diploma – the first step in escaping the streets. The high school diploma enables them to enter the military or work in support positions in medicine or law; attend vocational or trade school and even community college.

Our students are unable to attend regular school because of extensive existing trauma and an on-going chaotic lifestyle so our case management program dovetails with our High School Diploma tutoring.

Children of the Night Domestic Online ZOOM Tutoring for the High School Diploma

In 2011, Dr. Lois Lee created an innovative means to reaching more child sex trafficking victims with relevant, cost-effective programs offering permanent solutions to escaping prostitution.

Our ZOOM high school diploma tutoring prepares the youth for their State’s High School Equivalency Exam and once passed allows the student to qualify for job opportunities in the military, law enforcement, corrections, law firms and many medical fields. This diploma is essential for enrollment in a vocational/trade school or community college.

There are NO FEES attached to our program. The only requirement is that the student must be available for three one-hour sessions per week.
Our tutors are supervised at our Los Angeles headquarters and our students can reach their tutor from any computer, tablet, or cell phone with a WIFI connection from wherever they are. To further assist the students, we pay for textbooks and school supplies like calculators, notebooks, pens, and highlighters.
Our case managers assist with resumes, job applications, clothing for work, transportation to work, childcare, college applications, even FAFSA (federal financial aid); they buy books and school supplies to support the advancement of our youth.

Our case management program dovetails with our educational services to provide comprehensive support throughout the United States for continuity and opportunity to permanently escape prostitution.

Tutoring Children at Risk of Trafficking Worldwide

Global Tutoring Director

Global ZOOM Tutoring to Child Sex Trafficking Victims

Globally, our ZOOM tutoring is teaching English and Math to Child Sex Trafficking Victims living in Christian or Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs).

Many of these children are unable to leave the safe refuge where they seek protection because the risk of kidnapping for sex or labor trafficking is REAL.

When these children learn English, they can obtain employment in their country’s call centers or tourist industry.  With strong math skills and high scores on their nation’s math test, their own countries will fund their college education and increasingly there are employment opportunities in IT (Internet Technology).

Currently, we are partnered with organizations in the Dominican Republic, Thailand, the Philippines, Cambodia, Vietnam, India, Nepal, Ecquador, Tanzania and Kenya, and we have received inquiries from Pakistan.

Children of the Night's Nationwide Case Management

Case Management Weekly Client Review
Case Management Weekly Client Review

Since our inception in 1979, all Children of the Night programs have been exclusively funded by private donations from foundations, corporations, and individuals.

Children of the Night developed an effective model of case management and education combining advanced internet technology and mobilized social services for sex trafficking victims.

From our headquarters, Case Managers provide children 24-hour services, 7 days a week. We rescue youth from pimps, help with medical services, public health insurance, social security/disability benefits, maternity housing, drug program placement, domestic violence housing, transportation, mental health services, psychiatric evaluations or access to psychotropic medications, advocacy with the courts, social workers, probation officers, resume preparation, job placement, access to vocational or trade schools or community colleges, applications for FAFSA (federally funded financial aid)  - we are ready and willing to help.

Since our 2017 conversion from a 24-bed shelter home to mobile case management, the number of young people that we have been able to help has increased by 90%.

Permanent solutions for young people trying to escape prostitution may only be resolved by innovative social services - not by law enforcement.

Young sex trafficking victims and children at risk often miss out on social programs available to them because they are unaware of what is available and are easily frustrated by the tedious applications required to access these programs. Our Case Managers are well-versed in the intricacies of the system and can provide step-by-step directions to ease the process. They provide application assistance, appointment reminders, accompany youth to appointments and even arrange transportation if needed. Our case managers are available every step of the way. Without this constant support and encouragement, these children will remain on the streets.

Most long-term programs require essential documents like birth certificates and social security cards which many of our youths do not have. These items must be obtained from federal, state and local agencies in a particular order, but with different requirements. These bureaucratic barriers can be confusing, but our trained case management staff can identify existing records, substantiate residency and create a plan for obtaining all required documents.
