Mission

The Diamond Development Initiative (DDI) is a registered non-profit, charitable organisation established in 2005 at a meeting of representatives from national governments, US, Swedish and UK international development aid agencies, NGOs and the diamond industry. The organization was created to address the social and economic challenges faced by the millions of artisanal diamond diggers and dependants spread across in Africa and South America. Living in poverty and outside the formal economy, artisanal and small scale (ASM) miners are a global population particularly vulnerable to exploitation, health and safety risks, and human rights abuses.
