HDI was founded by a group of Rwandan physicians dedicated to promoting health and development in disadvantaged communities. The founders of HDI were born and raised in remote areas of Eastern and Central Africa, where simple, preventable diseases claimed many lives--especially those of women and children. Because of this, the founders were inspired to become healthcare professionals and work towards improving the health and well-being of their communities.
