Fall 2017 Updates and Happenings

Heal One World had a great Fall season highlighted by a very successfull Awareness Film Festival! Every year Skye hosts a 10 day festival highlighting films that bring to light important issues and education on our changing landscape. This year she and her team hosted over 200 films and more than 500 people came out to the event. Thank you to everyone who volunteered and took part in the festival.

Skye also started part 1 of a two part teaching series to create Tai Chi teachers! She is providing a 40 hour instruction on how to teach a Tai Chi Easy sequence and working to spread the benefits of movement through tai chi.

We also welcomed a new volunteer who is teaching Qi Yoga - a Tai Chi and Yoga class every Wednesday at 730pm. The class is gaining awareness in our community which is wonderful!

Miinkay, our Operations Manager and Craniosacral Therapist, has been able to share reduced cost treatments to our community and continues to hold space for the healing others may need. In addition Miinkay has been working with volunteer to improve our marketing efforts to make sure our community is aware of who we are and our free services.

OH and of course we have yoga classes every day, bootcamp, zumba, meditation, and Reiki healing circles. Our regular students remain dedicated and we are seeing one new student every other week! Thank you to everyone and all your support.

A Summer of Events!

We had a very succesful summer, filled with a Farmers Market and Nutrition Demo, a Prenatal Yoga Class with Nutrition education, and Health Fair.

On July 15th, Daniela hosted a Prenatal Yoga class. Our participants learned how to do yoga considering preganancy and safe movement, and also talked with our volunteers about healthy nutrition during pregnancy.

On July 25th, our intern Danielle led our Farmers Market and Nutrition Demo. She brought a group from People Assisting the Homeless (PATH) to the farmers market, and talked about choosing fresh, ripe vegetables. Then we took the vegetable back to the PATH center and she taught participants, Olive, GIovanni, and John how to make a fresh and healthy meal using the ingredients. Everyone enjoyed the food and information and even took home leftovers!

July 30th we held our 3rd annual Health Fair, filled with a day of yoga, meditation, Reiki, and Tae Bo. Our volunteers held 30 minute classes and we had the LA City Water come out to talk about clean water and environmentally conscious living.

At the end of July we said goodbye to our wonderful interns, but turned forward to meeting more volunteers and creating new offerings. In August we started weekly Zumba classes, Reiki healing circles, and are looking to start doing sound baths. Our healing circles are led by Reiki Master, Nicole Montano who bring a gentle and kind energy to the studio. We are happy to have her.

On September 9th, our volunteer and Reiki Master, Zena Briggs gave a workshop on level 1 Ascension Reiki and attuned 5 new Reiki practicioners. The workshop was well received and our participants left excited to bring healing to their lives.

Summer Ramp Up

Heal One World, Fresno
Heal One World, Fresno

Heal One World Fresno made a great start on April 15 with their grand opening and our Executive Director, Skye, was featured in the local news!

Since the opening of the Fresno location, classes in Tai Chi, Yoga and Meditation have begun. The classes leave our students feeling calm and reconnected to themselves. Our latest events at Woodward Park Library and the neighborhood Trader Joe’s have been very successful in introducing the community to new forms of healing and healthier lifestyle choices.

Giving back to the community is a big part of the The Zen Den and providing free classes to veterans is one of the many ways we reach that goal. We offer free classes to all military and the Veterans Administration brings veterans by weekly to enjoy classes, where they are provided a safe space to release some of their mental stresses and engage their minds through various teachings of Tai Chi, such as Sun Style, Kung Fu, Qigong and Bagua.

Our project manager, Miinkay hosted a volunteers social for our volunteers to get to know each other and hopes to build a network of healers for Heal One World.

We welcomed six interns for this summer who are helping us with outreach, marketing, fundraising, grantwriting, event planning, and the Awareness Festival. Our team has met and connected with over 50 different local business to learn about our community and search for more volunteer support. The interns have been busy creating new and up to date flyers and schedules and manage our social media outlets supporting our classes and events.

At the beginning of June, we welcomed a new fitness class called Tension Release Exercises (TRE) which is being taught by Rocio Gonzalez. The class uses therapeutic exercises to help you remove stress and tension caused by previous traumas. We are excited to have her on board!

On July 9th, we will be working with PATH to host a nutritional demo at the farmers market in Venice.

On July 15th we will be hosting a pre-natal free yoga event with yoga classes and free nutritional and birth advice from a trained and experienced doula, Kimberly Neer.

On July 30th, we are partnering with a local farmer's market to bring a health fair to the community. Our goal is to teach healthy living habits through free fitness classes and making healthier food choices and to introduce people to alternative healing modalities like craniosacral therapy and reiki.
