Promotion of the project 1

The fantastic 4! Women’s superpower is STEM! Considering the urgent need to expose young girls to female STEM role-models a unique comic book project has been initiated, projecting four female STEM women from four countries- Bangladesh, Indonesia, Poland, and Slovakia. This comic book project has been launched on June 1, 2016 in Warsaw, Poland. Three representatives from Bangladesh, Poland, and Slovakia met in the ‘Lean in STEM’ conference, held at Warsaw. They launched this project at the conference before the diverse audience from all over the world. In the launching session, the draft cover of the comic book was publicized. The cover of the comic book was produced and was printed in large scale earlier before the program. It was publicized at the launching session, after that- was placed in the conference venue and was exhibited throughout the two days long conference. As the next step, a team consisting script writer and female artists will be formed in these four countries. Simultaneously, selection of the role models will be researched and finalized. Within a few months, the storyboarding will be started and that will lead to the final production of the comic stories.

STEM Education for Innovation - Women in the Forefront!

International conference on STEM and the role of women in innovative development.

For two days (May 31 and June 1) Copernicus Science Centre changed itself in a big STEM congress. The international team talked about wise, beautiful and important things, about the great power to change reality and to solve problems. Because, as a winner of the STEM Visionary Award, Steven Zipkes said in the opening speech - "STEM changes the world."

The main objective of the "STEM Education for Innovation" conference was to develop solutions for accelerating the development of Polish civilization through better teaching of STEM and more efficient development of careers in science and engineering.

We debated the value of education and professional activity in the area of science and technology with speakers and panelists from 15 countries. About contact with the academic world and the world of high-tech industry, about innovation, about science and technology start-ups, human creativity and the value of STEM for building a good, competent, prosperous and harmonious society, capable of solving the challenges of the present and to continue  wise development.

An important theme of the conference was to challenge the full potential of women in the STEM. Hence the postscript in the title: "Women in the forefront". Wojciech Kaczmarczyk, the Government Plenipotentiary for Civil Society and Equal Treatment opening the event pointed out that equality legislation must be converted into a reality of equality.

An important step on this road was the Round Table for STEM - partnership initiative of individuals and institutions interested in the popularization of science and technical sciences, creative rapprochement between the world of universities and technology business and to support the potential of women in science, technology and innovative business start ups. It was attended by, among others, rectors of the best Polish technical universities, heads of 15 technology companies, media representatives and NGO's. They presented initiatives promoting STEM, such as inspirational Camp for Girls in ICT, a European ranking of engineering faculties, and Start4Stars program - partner placements for students of technology universities in the best high-tech companies. The hosts of the Round Table were the Education Foundation Perspektywy and Siemens.

Such meetings on STEM and the role of women in this field in Poland had not yet happened- says Dr. Bianka Siwinska, managing director of the Education Foundation Perspektywy - This conference will be a step further. These are not easy steps, but to paraphrase the US President John F. Kennedy, we are on a mission to the moon,

"We choose to take steps to boost STEM area in Poland, in Europe and around the world, not because this is easy, but because it is hard and very important."

Because Education Foundation Perspektywy has been interested in only wise and important issues for 20 years.

Report: Women at technical universities 2016

Presentation of the Report: Women at technical universities 2016 (original name in Polish: "Kobiety na politechnikach 2016") announcement of the “National OpenDay: For Girls Only" at 7 April and the inauguration of the second edition of the scholarship program Intel-“Perspektywy” Education Foundation "New technologies for the girls" were the highlights of the press conference, held on 17 March at the PAP Press Centre.

The press conference was attended by:
Dr. Bianka Siwinska, managing director of the Educational Foundation Prospects

prof. Tadeusz Wieckowski, Rector of Wroclaw University of Technology and chairman of KRPUT.

Mateusz Gaczynski, deputy director of the Department of Innovation and Development of Ministry of Science and Higher Education.

Micha DzogaIntel Corporate Affairs Manager

Presenting the results of the 6th edition of Report: Women at technical universities 2016, he pointed out that since 2007 the number of women there has risen to 37 percent. - We are approaching the limit of 40 per cent., Which was found with the Conference of Rectors of Polish Technical Universities as satisfactory, although of course it would be best if the sex ratio in technical universities was equal of gender participation.

The Report: Women at technical universities 2016: We are, still on the right road and I believe that we have done some good work.

National Campaign “Girls as Engineers!” (original name in Polish: "Dziewczyny na politechniki!")  It takes place this year for the ninth time, while the sixth time “Perspektywy” Education Foundation publishes a report presenting the results of the analysis of women's participation in the study at public technical universities.

Among the important conclusions of the report must include the fact that, despite the serious decline in the number of students in Poland, associated primarily with the demographic low, technical colleges still have more students than most other types of public universities. Moreover, thanks to the consistent, coordinated promotional activities addressed to students of secondary schools, stabilized trend of increasing the participation of women in technical universities in the total number of students. This share in the past 5 years averaged 36.3 percent. At the moment the girls make up more than 37 percent. students.

The report also points to the formation of a new positive trend on the participation of women in studies in the fields of information technology. Despite the evident decline in recent years interest in candidates trends related to data processing and telecommunications, since last year there was an increase of interest in these trends among young women - by 0.8 percent up.

April 7 - technical universities invite girls

The culmination of the National Campaign “Girls as Engineers!” is, as every year, a “National Open Day: For Girls Only", which this year will take place on April 7. On this occasion, universities have prepared a very interesting program of meetings with female students and female professor, creative workshops, visits to laboratories and "secret" places the individual departments. There will be educational games or concerts. Traditionally, will also race in the helmet, organized jointly with Academic Sports Association.
