Mission Statement The TVA vision and mission is to help families in need to bridge the gap between destitution and being self-efficient by giving families a HAND-UP, not just a simple HAND-OUT. Keys to Success Our Founders, Directors and team of dedicated volunteers who are driven by the following core principles: o Keeping families in need together. o Offering short term assistance to ensure we are following our principal of a hand-up and o not a hand-out. o Keeping the family bond strong by caring for the entire family unit, including pets o Making a dignified difference to the lives of those who fell into destitution. o Supporting the family holistically, including health and psychological needs. o Assisting families with basic survival needs i.e. food, clothing and medicine, and getting professional help where required. o Helping the families with life-skills, such as preparing CVs, actively seeking and finding employment, and referring to services such as counselling. o All the above it to facilitate families being able to re-establish themselves in our community with dignity and sustainability. Last year, Table View Angels supported 320 families to get back on their feet.580 adults, 680 children and 250 pets received support during their time of difficulty, 5 suicides prevented and were able to rebuild their lives as a result of our organization and the package of support offered, including meeting basic needs (food & electricity), job support groups and referrals to specialist agencies. Table View Angels are expanding our work even further as a direct result of the needs of our community. As well as the family support program, we are also opening Angel House, an emergency safe place for families who have nowhere else to stay, and Guardian Angels, providing emergency support to those in crisis and younger community members affected by bullying with a counselling team. 1. Family Support The first area work was to support families who are having financial difficulty. This could have arisen from situations such as loss of a partner, loss of a job or unexpected expenses. We support families for 1-3 months to help get them back on their feet. Our support package includes a weekly grocery delivery of fruit, vegetables, meat, tinned food and cleaning supplies. We also help with the job-hunting process, having a whatsapp group with local opportunities and help with CVs. We also help out with electricity, airtime/data (particularly when job hunting), bus points to get to work/school and clothing. We will also refer to other agencies, such as counselling and financial advisory services if needed. We visit the families at least once a week and befriend them to offer emotional support also through the tough time. 2. Angel House Whilst we were helping families, we began to receive more and more requests from families who were about to become homeless and had no-where to go. Many shelters in Cape Town are already full to capacity and they segregate by gender meaning families are split up. We also had no shelter in our area. We dreamed of opening our own house to provide temporary accommodation to families in need. We have established Angel House - Place of Safety where we provide temporary accommodation for families as well as support with finding jobs, providing food and getting families in a position where they can move out and become self-sufficient. 3. Guardian Angels Our final area has developed as a result from the many emergency calls we receive, often after hours, from people in crisis. We always helped where we can, but following a meeting with the mother of a young woman who took her own life because no one was available when she reached out, we decided we needed to be more. Guardian Angels was born in memory of Simone, and we are a trauma team helping out these emergency situations. The team are experienced counsellors or Angels and their role is to support until professional help is available and can take over care. 4. Guardian Angels - Youth with a future This Youth division is run by our councillors and is a support group from the youth age 13 - 18 with monthly support groups and daily whatsapp group support. For all things labelled, but shouldn't be. 5. Angel Therapy We currently have 4 qualified councillors and 2 addictions support Angels. They service all the other divisions of Table View Angels
