Dear Supporter of Serendipity Healthcare Foundation,

Since the last time you heard from us, we have been working hard to garner more funds to provide more water access to Gadan children and pleased to say that with your support, advice, generous donations we have been able to cite three additional hand pumps to the first two that you helped us with making a total of five handpumps which was our orginal target.

I am so proud and the children of Gadan with the entire community are so happy that with your support a wave of fresh air and developement has come into their community. Now that we have cited the hand pumps; we are embarking on trainings on good hygiene practices; provision of water containers to store their drinking water and trainings on good water storage, water filtration using local technology, skills to women on how to channel the slip off water to nursery beds that they can grow crops to sell at a reasonable price in order to alleviate poverty.

Until our project is fully funded, we will keep you updated on what is happening in our community in Gadan; our next phase is trainings and provision of water kegs and filters to purify their water thus we are asking for your continous support, generous donations to provide these items.

Thus far we have reduced the incidences of water related ailments from an initial 7 per 10 cases to 4 per 10 cases which I will say is as a result of provision to water sources and trainings thus far on good hygiene.

Thank you message from Gadan Children

Dear Supporters of Serendipity Healthcare Foundation,

On our last progress report to you, we had trained 18 women on water filtration using technology of moringa seeds and sunrays with good hygiene practices. we also trained 21 children on how to wash their hands properly and the importance of using soap to wash their hands.

As a follow up to that we distributed water containers to the children as most of them did not have water containers to take to school, there is a notable differrence in the children as their appearance is clean and they have been practising good handwashing with soap.

For the next phase of our project we would like to cite two to three additional hand pumps and train the care givers of the orphans and vulnerable children we identified during the course of our previous trainings and visit to the community so that they can also have quick access to water, learn about cleanliness and good hygiene practices that will boost their immunity apart from the drugs that they are taking.

We would like you to support our project again and a great way to do so to end the success of what your donation has done for us thus far in year 2013 is during this season of love and giving. There are great incentives and giveaway prizes on up coming challenges by GlobalGiving such as gifts for good, matching donations from unique donors and recurring donations from donors who give three consecutive times. Tell your family, friends and networks about us and put a smile on a child.

Basic Hygiene training for women and children

Training of women on local filtration
Training of women on local filtration

Dear SHF Supporters,

The last time you heard from us we had commissioned two handpumps which your kind donation and generousity has helped the children of Gadan have access to water.

Now, with your continued support we have had two separate trainings for the women and children on local water filtration and good hygiene practices within the past two months. We have trained the first batch of 18 women who will now cascade down this knowledge to other women. They were taught how to filter their water for drinking through the use of "Zogale" (Moringa seeds); Fatima Shuaibu a mother of five had this to say; "I never knew that zogale (moringa seeds) could be used to make water clean, now i clean up water which i put in bottles and sell to other women in my community at 50naira", Another trainee Indo Yushau also said; before now I only wash my hands with water without soap sometimes with ash but now having known that it is important to wash my hands everytime with soap, i will do so"

21 children from the two wards where the handpumps were cited were taught on how to wash their hands properly and the importance of using soap to wash their hands. A mini competition was done between the two wards to see which child will wash their hands the cleanest and Salaha Usman from Zauren Mallam won. She was rewarded with a trip to the Kano Zoological Garden. After the training, the children went home with washing up items such as bathing soap and washing soap.

As we have cited two handpumps and awareness of good hygiene practice has been established; for our next phase we would like to cite two more additional handpumps and train more women and children on good hygiene practices as during the course of our trainings we found out that there were orphans and vulnerable children who were affected by tuberculosis and HIV/AIDS that require close access to water to ease and boost their immunity.

We would like you to support our project again and a great way to do so is raise funds for us this month of September on a fundraising challenge through GlobalGiving.org as there are giveaway lovely prizes for our supporters who raise the most funds and unique donations; just click on the "Get Involved" tab and get started to create your own fundraising project on behalf of "Serendipity, Help a child project"; Tell your friends, family, network and help us put a smile on a child.

Please feel to contact me with any question, comment or advice at serenhealthcare@gmail.com or samirah@serendipityhealthcare.org. Thank you once again for your interest and support.

Warm Regards,
