The Institute was also born with that mission: to fulfill the dream of Rafaela (daughter of Henrique and Luciana Andrade, President and Vice-President of IDV), who died in a car accident along with her little daughter, Clara (2) in Canada in August 2013. Being a Nutritionist and having worked with very poor communities in Brazil, Rafaela planned to take care of children in need and end their hunger. After 3 years of experience in the shantytown of Santa Luzia in Brasilia, family and friends of Rafaela founded the Institute, which started operating in full in July 2018. Our mission is, therefore, to take care of children at social and nutritional risk and their family. We take care of children who live in a very difficult situation, facing violence, hunger and lacking education and basic care. Our project faces this reality and seeks to change it. It consists of dedicating resources and time to care for and teach the little ones and their families who lack everything. It is necessary to teach them that with education, love, unity, respect, affection and good examples, it is possible to be happy, it is possible to go far. Yes, with a welcoming environment, with well-trained professionals and rooms equipped with a minimum of adequate instruments, children will certainly have the chance of better physical, emotional and social development. The Institute recognizes the sad reality of children and families and seeks to change it. We operate in a building with a welcoming environment, equipped with the proper tools. We attend 60 children aged between 2 and 5 years, who arrive at 7AM and leave at 5PM Monday to Friday. They receive a nutritious breakfast, a fruit snack in the middle of the morning, a very healthy lunch, take a nap, take a shower and eat a delicious dinner and then return to their homes. In a very pleasant environment, each of these moments is also time to learn values and to be led with love to learn healthy habits; it also is a time when they experience social interaction and mutual respect in a group interaction that values peace. Our activities are directed to a daily work that allows the children to establish relationships among them, sharing toys and adopting attitudes of solidarity, dialogue, justice and respectful relationship among children, and child-adults and adult-adult as well.
Each of GlobalGiving’s nonprofit partners is required to send quarterly donor reports detailing the impact of their work.
