Firmina Foundation is dedicated to transforming the lives of children living in the developing world. Our mission is to give children access to quality education through our support in order to provide young children from the poorest communities an opportunity to learn so that they can work towards a brighter future. Firmina Foundation's Planned Activities and Programs: We have been directly engaging village elders and local community leaders in Tengua, Mozambique and have agreed to sponsor improvements for their local three-room public elementary school. Currently, the children take classes outside because the interior has fallen into disrepair due to many reasons, including the fact that it no longer has a roof. We are preparing materials and local workers to repair the school building in May 2019. Ten volunteers will be traveling to Tengua to clean out the rubble from the classrooms and work with a local contractor. We will be covering the costs of a new roof, pouring concrete floors in two of the classrooms, installing new windows, painting and plastering the walls, and installing blackboards. Within the next year we plan to install solar panels or other means to provide indoor lighting on rainy days. We are also currently collecting books for a future lending library at the school, as well as various school supplies to support the classrooms. Our goal is to expand to other developing countries with additional contacts in Malawi and Zambia to replicate the model of success we will achieve in Mozambique, providing support and adequate structures for a total of three new schools.
