Even with the wake of Hurricane Florence two years in our past, families are still being negatively impacted. Families are living in homes with moldy walls, ceilings, and floors. Greene Lamp continues to provide assistance to those families still in need. While these families were still recovering from the hurricanes, Covid 19 hit the US and once again these families were impacted again along with thousands of other families. Greene Lamp immediately began assisting families whose lives were thrown off balance by the pandemic. In April 2020, the Agency began purchasing food and having bi-monthly food distributions in low income neighborhoods in Eastern North Carolina. As the pandemic continued to devastate families, Greene Lamp began providing even further assistance by assisting with rent and utility payments, groceries, medicines, PPE's, and household supplies. The GlobalGiving funds provided an avenue thru which Greene Lamp could assist these families.
Following Hurricane Florence in 2018, many families in Eastern North Carolina are still suffering. Families continue to live in mold strickened homes, motel rooms, and with family or friends. Now, to add to the mental stress of being homeless or living in substandard conditions, the Covid-19 pandemic reared its ugly head further adding to the stress and impacted mental health of eastern North Carolina famiies.
Greene Lamp continues to provide support to families impacted. More recently, the agency assisted a family whose roof was still leaking from the 2018 hurricane. The Agency provided the materials to repair the roof and area volunteer groups provided the labor.

Greene Lamp Helping People, Changing Lives
By Angela Bates - Executive Director
Greene Lamp successfully allocated the GlobalGiving funds across the communities it serves impacted by Hurricane Florence. The Agency continues to receive requests for assistance for housing repairs, furnishings, and appliances. At present, the Agency has expended all readily available funds earmarked for Hurricane Florence impacted areas. The Agency maintains intimate contact with local long term recovery groups, is involved in the criteria and selection of those who have applied for Hurricane Florence funds. In addition, Greene Lamp also collaborates with other community resources to aid those impacted by the hurricane. As well, Greene Lamp continues to research other funding sources specifically for Hurricane Florence victims. Therefore, Greene Lamp does not have anything additional to report.
