Repurposing our mission to help the hungry

Families receiving food rations in New Delhi
Families receiving food rations in New Delhi

Dear Friends,

The COVID-19 pandemic is still growing and causing enormous loss of life and economic damage in India. SevaChild continues to focus on providing meals and food rations to poor families in three Indian slums. These families have not been able to work as the economy has ground to a halt, and there is simply little work for them to do.

And with many travel and movement restrictions still in place, our teams can still not distribute vitamin A to malnourished children. We are thus focused on providing these families with food rations as they have few other sources for securing food to avoid malnutrition and even starvation.

We encourage you to donate to our emergency food rations program on GlobalGiving to help them eat and survive during these pandemic times. Please consider becoming a monthly donor as it will be months, perhaps many months, before they will be able to work without the threat of the virus. Please click here to give.

When the lockdown is lifted and conditions are safer for our staff and volunteers, we will return to providing vitamin A doses for children under the age of five in India.

We appreciate your donations, and your understanding during this challenging time in our world.

Sincerely,

Jeff Bibler

Masks for the Poor - Project Deactivated

Dear Supporters,

Thank you very much for your donations that have made possible the distribution of 36,000 masks and 270,000 fliers on how to make do-it-yourself masks. These masks were given to doctors, nurses, and other first responders in New Delhi and three other major cities. The fliers were printed in four different dialects and were distributed in the crowded slums and rural villages of Haryana, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand, Bihar, Orissa, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, and Maharashtra.

Your donations certainly saved lives and made a difference in the lives of many in these cities and rural villages.

SevaChild is now shifting its focus to providing food rations to hungry -- and at times starving -- families in New Delhi, Dehradun, and Hyderabad. The pandemic and lockdown have been especially hard on the poor who have no resources to stock up on food. Many have been prevented from working for over three months now.

Please look for our campaign to provide food rations to hungry families on the GlobalGiving platform in the near future.

Thank you again for your support.

Sincerely,

Rick Carlton

7-16-20 Report on Protecting Mothers from Disease

Dear Friends,

Due to the spread of COVID-19 in India, SevaChild has temporarily postponed its nutritional intervention programs including this one for expecting mothers. We have pivoted our mission to providing PPE and food rations to the migrant workers and their families who have been deemed ineligible for the Indian government's rations program. We will be posting a new campaign on July 20th to raise awareness of the tragedy and fear of starvation now facing these families and how you can help. SevaChild plans to resume its nutritional intervention programs for expecting mothers and children at risk of disease due to malnutrition as soon as the COVID-19 pandemic has come under control and we are able once again to administer these nutrients.

Thank you all for your generosity in supporting SevaChild programs designed to address the most critical challenges people living in India's marginalized communities face. We can't do this without your support.

Sincerely,

Rick Carlton
