FIWY Annual Report 2020

Dear Supporters,

Thank you for standing by Bolivia’s rescued wildlife through CIWY’s ups and downs. Many of you give monthly donations, and that support has been crucially helpful in maintaining daily care for our 500+ animals.

Friends of Inti Wara Yassi, CIWY’s UK charity arm, has published its first annual report. Check it out here for a recap of 2020. You’ll see that funds from online GlobalGiving campaigns and other individual donations have grown immensely in recent years. Because there are so many of you out there, who care about our animals, even your smallest donations help contribute to CIWY’s largest sources of funding. YOU really do make all our work possible!

We hope to see some of you in Bolivia as international travel becomes possible again. We also hope to see you online next week for GlobalGiving’s “Little by Little” campaign. It’s a great time to give those “little gifts” – donations up to $50 will earn matching funds from March 8-12! We’ll remind you on social media when it starts.

Sending you all the best wishes and much gratitude.

Hasta pronto,

The CIWY and FIWY teams

Thank you for protecting CIWY from fires in 2020

Happy New Year!

We want to thank everyone who supported CIWY last year through a frightening fire season.

Fires spread alarmingly close to the sanctuaries, and even burned through a large section of the wild area in Ambue Ari. Remember that in addition to the relatively small area where we house rescued animals, Ambue Ari encompasses 900 hectares of land that holds important biodiversity. Thousands of wild animals find refuge in this undisturbed habitat. With only 15 people defending the sanctuary, and sporadic support from the overwhelmed local fire departments, we could only do so much. As a precaution, Marley the puma and Kevo the ocelot were moved to temporary cages in safer areas of the sanctuary.

Fortunately, no CIWY animals, people, or enclosures were hurt. With the arrival of rain, our exhausted staff members and volunteers could finally come up for air - but only slightly, because the workload remained demanding, without new volunteers.

Our hearts ache for all the wild animals who, once again, lost their lives or their habitat due to irresponsible burning by farmers across Bolivia.

Supporters like YOU surpassed our goal to raise $5,000 through the GlobalGiving matching campaign in October. Donations and matching funds totaled $6,925! This funded more fire-fighting equipment, which was crucial to limiting the fire's spread.

Thank you so much for supporting Bolivia’s wildlife – donors make all of CIWY’s important work possible.

All the best wishes for a better year in 2021!

CIWY Hangs On

Dear CIWY Supporters,

CIWY continues to hang on without any new international volunteers since March. We cannot say thank you enough to all the donors who have helped us survive this period so far.

CIWY is certainly not operating at full capacity – many animals are missing their daily jungle walks, going only once a week now or not at all. But we have managed to keep all 500+ animals safe, well-fed and healthy.

The Jean Sainsbury Animal Welfare Trust in the UK generously sent £7500 in support, and many organizations chipped in to help us fight the recent forest fires.

We look forward to welcoming back volunteers once it is safe to do so. In the meantime, thank you for keeping us afloat with your support! Even the smallest donations make a difference. Please stay tuned for matching opportunities on Giving Tuesday, coming up December 1.

Thanks and all the best,

CIWY/FIWY

A nuestros seguidores:

CIWY/FIWY
