“Zartonk89” NGO is continuing the program “Providing Education for 150 children in Armenia” in different regions of Armenia, where this important and targeted plan has not been done yet. We are representing our success in Vayk, which is situated in Vayots -Dzor region. 22 teenagers have taken part in this project, of which 15 girls and 7 boys, who were left out from the opportunity to receive basic education because of difficult social problems and lack some knowledge for their peers. The program “Providing Education for 150 children in Armenia” is for those, who are considered risky group, that is some of them did not attend schools as they had to do hard work because of poor social conditions and they did not have enough basic education. Those problems affected the stereotypes of the following children of risky group, their psychology was changed and they became more self-contained, underestimated their personal skills and became disappointed. Those things psychologically affect our beneficiaries, who become isolated from both their environment and peers. That is why along with basic education the children are supplied with psychological services that help them to be integrated into the learning process making children more motivated and versed.

Volunteers of  "Zartonk-89” have left for program implementation place, Vayots- Dzor region, met with training participants and recommended to write a story about the training.  Here is Gayane's story.

Hello, I am Gayane.  I am 14, from Vayk community of Vayots- Dzor region.

I was selected to participate in “Providing Education for 150 children in Armenia” program.  I had attended the High School of Vayk, but then I could not continue my education, receive the needful basic education necessary to a person for interaction in the environment, have indispensable knowledge because of my social conditions. I am very happy that I was given the opportunity to participate “Providing Education for 150 children in Armenia” program in Vayk.

At the program available trainings were organized through games.  The material was provided easily.  That's the reason that program participants took participation in the training with great interest, without being absent from classes, highlighting the role of basic education in their lives. The training gave me new knowledge, I became more spirited and sociable, acquired new friends. The learning process was goodly organized through games, which made the learning process more interesting. First of all, I met many good and kind people. Everything was very interesting, especially the organization of the training games and classes in the nature.

The used learning methods were very interesting, especially the fact that we also were participating in the training presenting additional information.  I would like that such training programs be more, those would include new beneficiaries, and new teenagers would take advantage of educational programs.  First of all, I want to thank the program supporters, Global Giving team, and the organizers for implementing such an interesting and training program.

Progres report

Meeting in Artsakh
Meeting in Artsakh

Within the framework of ICT as a Tool for Young Voices program we have planned to organize “Formation of active citizens in the communities of Armenia and Artsakh” training course in the communities of Armenia and Artsakh.

The aim is to contribute the formation of young people as autonomous, active citizens in 4 communities of Armenia and NagornoKarabakh (Vanadzor, Martuni, Shushi and Stepanakert). We plan to carry out 4 days training course in each region and community.  We have chosen those regions and communities as we have experience of working with young people from remote regions and we can say that such kind of socio-educational programsare not implemented in remote regions. 20 young people shall participate in the training course from each community.

Young people of those remote communities have been selected, as they are more vulnerable to challenges and changes in society compared with young people from cities, have low level of self confidence, self valuation and tolerance, problems of being socially and positively adapted, interpersonal communication skills shortages, difficulties to cooperate and work in a team, difficulties on certain important issues such as human rights, violence, trafficking, lack of skills to solve conflicts peacefully.

Young people need reliable and non formal environment where they can express themselves, and express their opinion, work in a team.

In addition to this we can say that they are unaware of non-formal methods acquiring through knowledge, skills and abilities, which will make the course more interesting and interactive. We are sure that through this course young people will gain confidence, learn and deepen their knowledge, skills and abilities to become more autonomous and active in their lives and communities.

The launch of the program in regions of Armavir.

Teacher
Teacher's retraining

Our “Providing Education for 150 children in Armenia” program was launched in communities of Shenik, Shaki and Vayk in February.  A retraining for learners from 3 regions was organized immediately after preparatory activities.  We selected the learners taking into consideration the following criteria; their age, experience of working with children from vulnerable groups, motivation, psychological skills and abilities of working with children and used the best practice implemented in 7 communities.  Didactic and interactive means were used during the retraining course, a successful practice implemented in various regions was presented, the curriculum worked out beforehand was presented in detail.  At the beginning of the course heads of the classes from 3 communities arrived, asked questions concerning them to the leader of the program and received full answers to their questions.  The retraining teacher, Astghik, will present in detail the report of the retraining course.

I am Astghik.  At the seminar I presented in detail how to start the project step-by-step.  In order to start the project in their regions the trainers first of all should make a list of participants. For this purpose, they should search for 10-15 year-old children yielding the basic education among their acquaintances and relatives, as well as in schools.  After completing the list they should speak with the parents of the children, inform them about the project and receive their approval, so that their child can freely participate in classes of the basic education.  After making the list they arrange with the administration of the school about receiving a class for starting the courses.  To come to an agreement with the children on days and to organize the classes in accordance with the plan.  Children having psychological problems must receive a support of psychologist.

At the retraining course I shared with my experience and acquired skills with the participants, presented the best works from other communities. For example, to ask the children after lessons what they liked and what didn't, what offers they have. To be friendly with the children, not to put a teacher-pupil border, because our task is to teach the children through games and contests.

The goal of the retraining was to produce such trainers, who would create an environment, where children would be easy, interact with each other and would help the children to perceive the material worked out beforehand in accordance with the curriculum.
