The aim of Operacioni i Mekembjes (Operation Restoration) is to prevent violence and human trafficking in Kosovo and provide rehabilitation and reintegration for victims. We have two main projects. The first is a prevention project, Vocations for the Future. We work with students aged 12-16 that have been identified as being at risk of becoming either a victim or perpetrator of violence or trafficking, training them in a vocational skill and life/social skills, as well as offering literacy and psychological support to them and their families. The vocational skills that we offer are welding, electrical installation and barbering for boys, and tailoring for girls. For the school year 2018-2019, we are planning to add a cooking course for girls. Students are referred to us by local schools, municipal social work centers and youth probation services. This project has been running since 2015 and we have seen that as well as learning a skill for future employment, the students consistently improve their behaviour and attendance at school, and grow in self-confidence. Our second project is a family rehabilitation and reintegration center for women and families who have survived domestic violence or human trafficking. It is a long-term program, supporting families for up to three years on a residential or daily basis. All of the participants are from poor and low-educational backgrounds, and do not have the social or financial means to support themselves. We offer psychotherapy and counselling, literacy and numeracy training, job skills, life skills, medical and legal support and more. The participants are referred to us by municipal social work centers all over Kosovo - our cases come from many regions, as we are the only project in Kosovo offering long-term support and reintegration for victims of trafficking or domestic violence.
