1st Graduation ceremony 2015

Thanks to Nokia and GlobalGiving, the Red de Innovación y Aprendizaje (RIA) opened it first center using technologies that build up creativity as well as training in the design of prototypes for new gadgets. Hand tools, power tools, and digital manufacturing devices are available for people from 13+ to create and develop their own widget.

The space called RIA MakersLab was opened at RIA’s branch Neza 9. During its first semester, it has been achieved a 115% of graduated users resulting from the Empower Through Training.  It has been a great season: we had our 1st generation graduation and project’s fair event! Santiago, Customer Marketing Manager LAT from Nokia Mexico kindly attended to this occurrence.

As a founder member, he learnt to use the laser cutter to make souvenirs and projects for the opening of the RIA MakersLab. Helped by a laser cutter and a 3D printer machine, he has created a USB controller to be used in electronic music performances. Now he wants to study Visual Arts and Music Production; also he wants to start his own shop of design products such as shirts and gifts with his own designs.

Please watch the Juan’s success story video here.

What do you think about youngsters as Juan that receive such opportunities like RIA MakersLab offers? What can they will be able to reach?

Cultural Activity with youth
Cultural Activity with youth

Everyday is a opportunity to change our attitude, our school, our community, our world. We live this everyday, we see it happen all the time at the Learning Innovation Network and the Digital Libraries.

When a teacher wakes up one day with a real desire to inspire her students, it changes everything. Cecilia is a teacher that always recieves you with a smile. She has been the one person that could really attract young people into cultural activities and community projects. With the use of technology, she makes reading attractive, she makes tradition something innovative, and if she doesn't know something... she invites and engages someone that knows!

This is how she's managed to make every cultural activity a success. Images like the one in this photo, is what has captivated more people into getting involved in more courses, reading clubs and other educational activities. Cecilia is great! and like her there are many talented teachers that make worth every effort to fight for education and inclusion in México!

Thank you for helping us do our job with more tools.. and more inspiration!

Technology: an opportunity to be better

When Don Pablo lost his audition one saturday morning, he thought he wouldn't be able to continue working and having a normal and happy life.

Three years ago, he lost his job because of this condition and since then he started knocking on doors to get a job or some kind of support. In September 2014 he got a job in the warehouse, but, because he did couldn't hear, he was at risk to be injured by the material and the loading machines. He was very close to losing his job.

Trying to find alternatives, he visited different educational institutions to learn computing, however, none of them could or wanted to accept him because he can't hear well.

When he arrived to one of Fundación Proacceso's centers, he thought the teachers were very kind to him and the center was very comfortable and beautiful. He thought he wasn't going to be able to afford it. When he knew about the scholarships program, he inmediatly signed up for the computing course.

He finished is course in October 2014 and in December of that year, he had already been promoted to the managing area of the company he was working for. His excellent performance and computing knowledge allowed him to gain the trust and respect of his superiors and colleagues.

Don Pablo is now very happy and grateful to Fundación Proacceso and everyone who participated in his life changing educational experience.

Thank YOU!
