Selection process is half way through

Dear Supporters,

We feel really happy to have come back to you with more updates on the project. As we mentioned in the previous report, the selection process is going on and We have, so far, chosen 30 Children. Most of them are girls from oppressed and financially challenged backgrounds.

We are exercising great care in choosing only the  students who are interested in utilizing the  sponsorship to the fullest extent and who  have shown keen interest in pursuing higher studies. Those students are from different villages and different social strata. However, once they get into the programme, they will become members of our SPPD family.

Your care and support for the children will go a long way not in just providing the much needed education but also in reinforcing their faith that they are not alone and the society cares for them.

Thanking you all and our next report will have all the students in the final list.

Beneficiary Children are being selected

Dear Supporters,

Warm greetings from Society for Poor People Development!

We have started the selection process for enrolling the 50 deserving children into the program from the 20 villages we work in.The academic year for implementing the program will start from June ( June, 2011) onwards, and hence it becomes imperative on our part  to be ready with the Students so that the program can be rolled out immediately once the  academic year starts.

Students are selected based on the criteria we have set out for:

  •  50% students should be girls
  • Preference to first generation school-goers
  • Preference to students from economically challenged background, children of single parents, physically challenged, HIV infected parents
  • Children who have secured more than 60% in their last grade.
  • Children who show commitment to learn further

We will be able to finish off the selection process in about a month and we will get back to you with more details.Meanwhile, please, spread the word on the importance of supporting this program.Talk to your friends and family ..bring in more support. This will benefit the children in a big way.

Dear Donors,

We wholeheartedly thank all of  you for your wonderful support!

We are happy to have secured a permanent spot on GlobalGiving Website. It was possible only because of your donations. We started a project in the year 2009 when we realized that many children in the villages we work were about to become child labourers, if they were left uncared for. Because their parents were all daily wagers and did not have any financial support to educate them. Moreover, many children were abandoned, fatherless or motherless, and children of disabled parents. Many fathers in the community were/are alcoholic and would squander away the little income they would make, thus had little money to spend for their children's education. So, we, after a careful screening process, selected 60 very poor, meritorious children (50% of whom were girl children) from over 20 villages. All the children in the project now receive monthly financial support for their School fee, Uniform, Footwears, Stationery, Notebooks, Talcum Powder, Hair Oil etc. Second year into the project, 58 children have successfully passed onto the next grade and would continue their education to reach the secondary grade.

Motivated by the enthusiasm and educational progress those children in the programme display, many more parents, with deserving children, have come forward and requested us to enroll their children too into the programme. This means more number of beneficiaries and more fund requirement. We would be able to help those 50 new children only if we raise enough funds. The project we have posted on the GlobalGiving Website will, if required funds are raised, be able to help those  50 deserving children to receive education and thus secure bright future. We strongly hope that your support is very crucial and you would continue showing the support in the days to come as well. We will come up with more updates on the project and the beneficiaries soon.
