A new schoolyear has begun on January 2019 and we are proud that the kids at Malaika are now in upper class, having all passed their class last year: 12 students are attending secondary school, 6 are attending primary, 6 are in preschool, and 1 is attending a special school.

Thanks for your generous commitment in 2018 and for supporting the children at Malaika through this school year: Malaika Guardians 2018  has almost been completely funded!

Please note that we have started a new project Malaika Guardians 2019 for the new school year and hope you will continue to make the gift of education to the children of Malaika also for 2019. You can help the kids with a quality education by ensuring school fees, or uniforms, or books.

School's Out!

"Graduation" at primary school 2018
"Graduation" at primary school 2018

Two weeks remain until the end of the academic school year in Tanzania. It has gone so quickly and the children have worked extremely hard.

We are proud to share that 100% of our boys and girls passed their compulsory primary school leaving exams and are now ready to begin high school in January.

The traditional leaving primary ceremonies have been wonderful moments for each student to celebrate their achievements. It has also been an emotional time saying farewell to their teachers and school friends. To mark the transition a special party at Malaika was organised for all the children to spend time together and have fun. In addition, we visited one of the students, who is living far away after being reunited with her family, to congratulate and enrol her in a nearby high school. See photos!

As we look ahead to 2019, 12 students will be in high school, six pupils in primary school and five younger ones in kindergarten. Pre-school learning is such an important and exciting time for infants. When toddlers arrive at Malaika, they can only speak Kiswahili. As soon as children enter pre-school they begin to learn English, and grow in so many ways too, giving them a head start in their education.

Our aim at Malaika is to give to everyone the chance to develop their interests and skills through a quality education, helping them to reach their full potential.

Thank you for generous commitment in 2018 and supporting the children at Malaika through the school year!

Preparing for primary school leaving exams!

All children in Tanzania returned to school in August following the summer holidays. Seven of the youngsters at Malaika – three girls and four boys – are especially excited about what lies ahead in the coming months.

They are each studying hard to pass the compulsory primary school leaving exams at the end of the year, an important step towards their future. Upon completion, they will be ready to begin high school in January!

Tanzania has one of the world’s youngest populations, with 43% under the age of 15. Moreover, more than 40% of Tanzania’s adolescents are left out of quality lower-secondary school. At Malaika we are proud that 100% of children have passed the 11+ exam and remain in school. We hope this will continue.

The traditional graduation ceremony is an occasion that everyone at Malaika is looking forward to, as seen from the photos below. Each year, we take a select group of younger children from Malaika to celebrate and have fun with the older ones.

By January 2019, almost half of the children in our care will be attending high school. Our aim at Malaika is to give to everyone the chance to develop their interests and skills through a quality education. In the long term, this includes progressing to University, for those who want to continue their studies, and giving everybody the opportunity to get a good job, be independent and self-satisfied.

Thank you for helping us to ensure all children at Malaika can continue with their education this year!
