Houston Food Bank (HFB) is the largest food bank in the United States in terms of meals distributed and is a member of Feeding America, the largest hunger-relief charity in the nation. Established in 1982, HFB's core function is the large-scale distribution of food and select other products (such as personal hygiene and cleaning products) to nearly 600 partner agencies across 18 counties in southeast Texas, including the greater Houston area. Last year, 40% of the Food Bank's total distribution was comprised of produce. In addition, the Food Bank provides a number of hunger-relief, nutrition education, and food collection programs that benefit the community. The Food Bank's mission is leading the fight against hunger, its vision is food access for all, and its goal for the future is to expand service to the community to 100,000,000 nutritious meals by 2018.
