Let's keep going!

Atauro Handicraft Market - Arlo's artisans
Atauro Handicraft Market - Arlo's artisans

We are so thrilled by your support and inspired by the achievements of this project that we decided to extend it in order to have a greater impact and keep supporting these amazing artisans.

Last June we hosted the 2nd Atauro Handicraft Market and more than 40 artisans came from this remote island to Dili (some of them came to the countries’ capital for the first time!). The day before the market our team provided them some further training on numeracy, visual merchandising and sales support.

The Handicraft Market was a huge success, we had tons of visitors, live music from Atauro, delicious local food and all the artisans sold out their products, creating a significant and direct impact on Atauro’s economy.

The event was a great opportunity for the artisans to get feedback on their products and to see their skills and cultural heritage appreciated by a wider audience. The General Director of the Secretary of Satate for Art and Culture, Ms. Cecilia Assis, delivered the opening speech, joining us on raising awareness for the economic empowerment potential of the creative industries in Timor-Leste.

With your help we are supporting remote communities of Atauro island, developing new livelihoods as a way of income generation.

One step away, time to celebrate these amazing Artisans!

It's great to have inspiring visitors

Almost a year has passed since we launched the campaign and we are only one (baby) step away to achieve the full objective!

With your help we are supporting remote communities of Atauro island, developing new livelihoods. These communities have accomplished so much, not only by developing new livelihoods as a way of income generation but also by proudly seeing their cultural heritage and handicrafts appreciated by a greater audience.

We keep on visiting these communities each month, giving them mentoring and access to market. Each visit is pure joy, seeing how much these artisans have developed their skills and self confidence.

To celebrate these amazing artisans and this beautiful island, Empreza Di'ak will host the 2nd Atauro Handicraft Market in Dili on the 23th of June. If you are around, please join us on this very special event! Visitors will have the opportunity to know more about Atauro, its communities and culture and will have the unique chance to meet the artisans and buy handicrafts from this beautiful island. Check out the event page on Facebook!

And we are almost there!

Local artisans learning about business!

After 9 months the objective is almost fully achieved! It has been amazing to share with such remote communities the appreciation that people from all over the world have been showing, the support they have been gathering for their work. The local artisans are producing more and more products and improving their lives!

It is now time to think about the next steps, how to build up on this success, how to continue paving the way for this amazing artisans to thrive!

On March 21st it is the third anniversary of our Social Business Center in Atauro island and we visited all our communities to celebrate together this strong partnership. Check out the video here!
