Girl's Scholarship Fund 2018

December Graduations
December Graduations

Thanks to YOU, 2018 was a fantastic year for our Girls Scholarhship Fund. We celebrated 28 young women graduating in May and then another 3 this past December.

These 31 graduates are each the first in their family to obtain a university degree and have just taken a major step towards being able to lift their families out of poverty.

We are working hard to ensure they all receive good jobs, start savings plans, and embark on a 3-5 year plan to succeed both professionally and in their own family life. It's far more challenging than many realise for a young person to immediately become the breadwinner in an impoverished families - the demands from everyone can be overwhelming - so our team coaches them through this transition.

Your generosity has changed these girls lives forever. Thank you.

Please take a few minutes to check out our 2018 Annual Report (attached). It's fully a photos that we're sure will put a smile on your face :)

Sincerely,

Jim

Children's Literacy & Youth Jobs 2018

2018 was Masinyusane's most successful and impactful year ever in terms of Children's Education & creating local, meaningful jobs for unemployed youth.

Over the course of the year, we had 473 children receiving one-on-one literacy sessions in our Masinyusane Literacy Centres. In total, the children received 18,627 hours of tutoring!! Each of those invaluable hours was made possible by the incredible generosity of donors like yourself.

In addition to the literacy sessions, we built another school library at Fumisukoma Primary School. Over 1,600 children at the school benefit from the library, with hundreds participating in library projects each and every day.

We also launched a brand new Educational Technology Centre at Seyisi Primary School. This exciting pilot project is introducting the world's best educational software and apps to some of South Africa's poorest children, allowing them to benefit from the same technology that children in New York and London use.

Finally, we created 34 jobs for previously unemployed local youth. These jobs provide an income, but more importantly, the self worth of knowing that they're helping to uplift their own communities by investing in their local schools.

And those are just the headlines. Please check out our Annual Report attached for more photos and stories. We are 100% positive you will be inspired.

Thank you for your unending commitment to providing our children with more opportunities to grow, develop, and reach their potential in life.

Sincerely,

Jim

Girl's Scholarship Fund - Sept Update

Masi House of Excellence Nutrition
Masi House of Excellence Nutrition

2018 continues to be an exciting year of growth, success, and inspiration in our Girl's Scholarship Fund.

On the high school front, we have over 125 girls on the program receiving assistance with ACCESS to university. We are submitting (and paying for) their applications to university, financial aid, and other scholarships. This takes thousands of man hours, but our team is intent on ensuring these girls have as many opportunities as possible to continue their studies next year.

We have also had numerous career guidance interventions, including pschometric assessments, career guidance sessions, and take-a-girl-to-work days. The photo below shows some of our girls from Cowan High School preparing to spend the day at PricewaterhouseCoopers Accounting firm.

At university, our girls continue to shine. We currently have 172 girls enrolled at our local university and they're achieving an 87% pass-rate. We also have 18 girls staying in our Masi House of Excellence, which allows them to live near campus, in a safe & productive environment, with access to food and computers. Our House of Excellence continues to inspire nearly everyone that visits as it permeates a culture of success, dreaming big, and helping one another.

YOU help make all of this possible through your generosity and support. Masinyusane is simply the intermediary connecting these incredible young women with generous people that want to help others. We are eternally grateful for that support!

Very sincerely,

Jim
