Winning!

Thank you to everyone who donated this year, we won $1,000 of prize funds for getting 3rd place in most unique donors with the Safer World Fund contest. This goes a long way to ensuring more vulnerable women gain access to the skills, resources, and network needed to grow and start enterprises. Research shows that women in developing countries, on average, re-invest 80-90% of their earnings back into their families. Not only do livelihoods improve and alternatives to extremist recruitment prevail, but they are breaking cycles of poverty.

The Marshall Direct Fund vocational training project has been selected for another round of matching support by Safer World Foundation! Every donation will be matched by 50%. Please share this opportunity with friends and family you think might be interested in supporting underserved young women in Pakistan so that they may receive the hand up they need to chose peace and prosperity over violence and despair.

We always welcome visitors at our schools or trainings which can be arranged through our director, Farida fahmad@moqah.org. Please help us generate awareness – become a fan of our Facebook page, join us on Twitter, and share with your networks if you haven't already. If you or anyone you know would like to start a MDF Allies in Action group in your community there are various one-time or annual or monthly ideas and activities. Contact us to learn more, info@marshalldirectfund.org.

Thank you on behalf of the students, entrepreneurs and MDF staff!

Turning the Tide

Students at BK school Sept, 2016
Students at BK school Sept, 2016

Schools are back in session and we have hundreds of students enrolled thanks to your support! Over the summer teachers were provided a workshop on how to offer tailored learning experiences that meet the needs of all students so that lessons can be implemented that cater to a range of abilities and learning styles. Students are putting their skills to the test through spelling bees and quizzes this week. Staff work diligently to offer quality education that cultivates critical thinking. Anything done in the face of extremist conflict is too little too late, only education has the power to turn the tide of terrorism. Shahbaz Taseer, recently returned kidnap victim shares his harrowing story living among extremists for nearly five years at our annual reception. To learn more click here

Please consider supporting mothers and older sisters of our students through the MDF vocational training program. Safer World Foundation is matching donations by 50% through Global Giving. That means $20 become $30! Please consider supporting vocational training in Pakistan today. Support of this program allows families to earn more income and break the cycles of poverty and pursue peace and prosperity over violence and despair.

If you would like to start a MDF chapter or conduct an activity or invite a MDF representative to your community, we have a toolkit with choose your own adventure activities that we would gladly share with you. Providing A Hand Up, Not A Hand Out

Thank you for being a part of the solution - Empowering women to start and grow businesses allow them to earn greater incomes and break cycles of poverty. We continue to partner with local communities that invite us to offer vocational training, share the cost, and conduct assessments in advance which are then used to determine skill and topics of training. Male family members are consulted with in order to ensure their support so that women are set up for success. This model works! We are consistently reaching over 1,000 women a year and demand for scope of services and greater geographic areas is on the rise.

We still have funds remaining of a grant from Safer World Foundation that enables donors to receive a 50% match! Please share this opportunity with friends and family you think might be interested in supporting underserved young women in Pakistan so that they may receive the hand up they need to chose peace and prosperity over violence and despair.
