Focus on Education and Outreach

Nourish TT would like to thank you for your continued interest and support of our cause. We remain committed to reducing hunger and food waste in Trinidad & Tobago. In 2016, we started with a simple social innovation; creating the Nourish TT website and app, allowing food companies with surplus food connect directly with NGOs that prepare food for the needy. In 2017 we met our first major milestone by redistributing enough surplus food to provide over 100,000 MEALS to our partner charities who prepare food for the homeless, those affected by domestic violence and those seeking refugee status, in other words those who need it most.

In 2018, we set our sights on expanding our network of donors, charities and volunteers. We reached out to local farmers asking them to donate surplus fresh produce and we piloted this with several donations in June, July and August.

This marked the start of an new initiative we call Harvest for Hunger. We conducted our first Harvest for Hunger pilots, with the assistance of dozens of volunteers, from NCB Global Finance. We were able to harvest more than 500 pounds of fruits and vegetables (including tomatoes, ochroes, celery, chive, etc) from 2 farms within 2 hours. We then delivered the produce to nearby charities with the assistance of our new volunteer delivery drivers.

This year we plan to focus on education and outreach initiatives to spread the word more effectively. We have updated our website and have plans to roll out a digital marketing strategy. We also plan to expand our network of charities, donors and partners further to increase our impact.

But we can’t do this without your support. So please support our efforts to reduce hunger in Trinidad and Tobago. Donate generously to our Global Giving campaign.

Please stay tuned since we’ll be coming up with even more projects and programs to deepen our social impact of reducing hunger and food waste in Trinidad & Tobago.

Nourish TT Expanding our Capabilities and Reach

Dear Friend,

Thanks for subscribing to email updates from Reduce Hunger & Food Waste in Trinidad and Tobago by Nourish TT, a project on GlobalGiving. Here's the unedited update from the field:

Nourish TT : Expanding our capabilities and reach in T&T
By Karissa Koping - Project Leader

Nourish TT is committed to reducing hunger and food waste in Trinidad & Tobago—with a simple social innovation. Using the Nourish TT website and app, food companies with surplus food connect directly with NGOs that prepare food for the needy. We began our journey in 2016 and met our first major milestone in 2017 by redistributing enough surplus food to provide over 100,000 MEALS to our partner charities who prepare food for those who need it most.

In 2018, we set our sights on expanding our network of donors, charities and volunteers. We reached out to local farmers asking them to donate surplus fresh produce and we piloted this with several donations in June, July and August.

This marked the start of an ongoing initiative we call Harvest for Hunger. We conducted our first Harvest for Hunger pilots, with the assistance of dozens of volunteers, from NCB Global Finance. We were able to harvest more than 200 Kgs of fruits and vegetables (including tomatoes, ochroes, celery, chive, etc) from 2 farms within 2 hours. We then delivered the produce to nearby charities with the assistance of our new volunteer delivery drivers.

This brings us to another new milestone achieved this quarter, the expansion of the Nourish TT app which allows willing volunteers to sign up to perform deliveries on an as-needed basis. Local volunteers can sign up through the Nourish TT app and serve the cause by delivering small amounts of food donated by supermarkets through our app.

Within the next few months we look forward to creating new and exciting opportunities for our corporate partners to volunteer their time and directly harvest crops which will be delivered to nearby charities.

2018 Highlights from Nourish TT

Nourish TT is committed to reducing hunger and food waste in Trinidad & Tobago—with a simple social innovation. Using the Nourish TT website and app, food companies with surplus food connect directly with NGOs that prepare food for the needy.

In 2017, we met our first major milestone which meant we were able to redistribute enough surplus food to provide over 100,000 MEALS to those who need it the most!

In 2018, we set our sights on expanding our network of donors, charities and volunteers. We reached out to local farmers asking them to donate surplus fresh produce and we’ve piloted this with several small donations in June, July and August.

We also achieved another milestone by creating a system where local volunteers can sign up through the Nourish TT app and serve the cause by delivering food donated by supermarkets. This September we look forward to creating new and exciting opportunities for our corporate partners to volunteer their time and directly harvest crops which will be delivered to nearby charities.

This will mark the start of an initiative we call Harvest for Hunger. We will be conducting our first Harvest for Hunger pilots, with the assistance of volunteers, we plan to harvest fruits (mangoes and citrus) and vegetables (tomatoes, ochroes, celery, chive, etc) from farms across Trinidad and Tobago and deliver them to charities who provide much needed sustenance to those most in need.

But we can’t do this without your support. So please support our efforts to reduce hunger in Trinidad and Tobago. Donate generously to our Global Giving campaign.

Later in 2018, we’ll be coming up with even more projects and programs to deepen our social impact of reducing hunger and food waste in Trinidad & Tobago.
