The first step to improving quality of life is water. When we live in a culture that uses an average of 100 gallons of water per day per person, it is hard to imagine a community where getting the recommended one gallon of drinking water per day is impossible. However, this is the reality across much of the undeveloped world. Engineers Without Borders has been asked by several communities in Rwanda to help with this pressing problem. The CU EWB Rwanda team has been working to do just that ever since. We have successfully implemented four different systems in Rwandan communities and are in the process of getting a new system ready for the community in Cyanika. Our work has freed children from the hard labor of hauling water and allowed them to attend school. Over 2,000 people have been impacted by our water catchment systems and we cannot wait to continue improving quality of life for everyone!
