Personalised check-in calls with carers and online carer activity groups
By Mark Bradford - Project Leader
Thank you for generously supporting our project as we offer personalised check-in calls to ask carers how they are getting on in these challenging and difficult times, and run a varied programme of online groups and activities!
So far we have been able to call over 650 vulnerable unpaid carers.
In these calls we have been able to ask the carers if they or their loved ones have everything they need at the present time and if there is any support we can provide to them.
We have also been able to let them know about all the online support and activity groups we are currently running.
These include catch-ups with the CEO, arts, music and poetry appreciation sessions, book and film clubs, genealogy, quilting, mindfulness, yoga and carer-training to name but a few. The full programme can be seen on our website here.
The pandemic has done a lot to hide carers – confining them to their homes
With your support we are able to help carers access vital support while also giving them the opportunity to break the routine and allowing them to enjoy recreational activities!

Thank you for helping us host the carers' party!

Carers' party in full swing
Thanks to your generous donation to our GlobalGiving Campaign to ‘Give 150 Carers A Party!’ we were able to do just that on Friday 31 January 2020 at the Hammersmith Club in west London!
Unpaid carers enjoyed delicious Lebanese food and fantastic live music provided by The Red Stripe Band – with many getting up for a dance!
The party was a well-earned night off for the carers from their demanding caring roles. It also gave them the opportunity to share a fun evening with fellow carers who understand exactly what they’re going through.
Feedback from the evening included:
“Thank you for the invite to the 2020 party. The music was great!” Local unpaid carer.
“Thank you very much for the carers party this evening!” Local unpaid carer.
A big thank you from all the Carers Network team for supporting this campaign and enabling us to treat the carers to a memorable evening!
You can keep up to date with all Carers Network’s work and projects on our website here. If you are potentially interested in volunteering for us the current opportunities can be found on our website here.
Thanks to your support and additional off-line fundraising, Carers Network is delighted to announce that we have successfully reached the target for this campaign.
Activities make a difference
The health and wellbeing activities have been particularly popular. Carers learnt about healthier nutrition, how to look after their own wellbeing and practised exercises to support them in their caring role. One participant described it as “an excellent course” and “a must for all carers.”
Carers have learnt and shared new skills during the storytelling workshops and in the singing group. And they have taken up crafting opportunities, such as embroidery.
Early next year, we plan to offer IT training for carers, not only in online shopping and banking but also in learning how to set up emails, including on a mobile phone.
Your generosity has helped make all this possible.
It cannot be said enough!
You have helped unpaid carers take a break from their caring duties and given them the chance to meet with others, have fun and learn practical skills while doing so.
