As a Stray Cats Organization, we are always busy. Finally, I could find time to update the medical follow-up status for our stray cats with the help of our volunteer accountant to finalize some of the billing charges.

In the past few days, the vet’s clinic manager asked me several times to pay the outstanding balance for the medical bills of stray cats, and I always told her that I will pay it soon. And every time the vet’s clinic manager always said humorously to me, “the outstanding balance for this month is about HKD 20,000 (USD 2,600); while the total outstanding balance is about HKD 80,000 (USD 10,300). Don't you think it is easy to save stray cats?"

One of the hospitalized stray cats, Huihui successfully completed the removal of teeth (oral ulcers) and sores, and he is back home now. Ever since Huihui was discharged from the hospital, he becomes so attached to humans. Saving stray cats are not easy, but when I see them recovered and back home, I feel relieved and happy.

For sure I know that it is not easy to save stray cats, not easy to run a non-profit organization, and I always want to give up. However, when I know that I can save stray cats, and bring them to see vet, find homes, and change their lives; I will do my best even I will face lot of challenges. Of course, thanks for all your support and volunteers help out, without you all, I think I can do nothing.

Same as usual, we always busy to take care of stray cats in Tai O. In late July 2021, we rescued a very tiny and skinny kitten. He was thinner than a mouse, and you can feel that he has only skin and bone at all. I took a shower for him and also caught all fleas on him. You know what I felt so upset and cried a lot before if I save a stray cat like this, but now I feel so fortunate and thanksgiving that I can help out and save another life.

For this tiny and skinny kitten, we called his name as “Ka-long”. After a few days in the Tai O Stray Cat campus, he has better now and gained some weight. He is one of the four baby kittens, but the last survivor. If we didn’t find him and rescue him, he would not be able to survive. We will do our best to take care of him and make sure he gains weight, builds up a strong body and being healthy; then we can help him to find a new home to have a great family.

Once again, thank you for helping us, we are for sure that we can’t last long without your support; therefore, please keep supporting us and we can help more and more stray cats in Tai O and other areas.

The Repot For First Quarter of 2021

In the mid of February and it was a Saturday, there was a neighbor in Mui Wo (Eastern side of Lantau Island, while Tai O is on the Western side of Lantau Island, driving time is about 30 minutes) found 4 baby kittens (about 2 months old) at the Mui Wo garbage station.

This lady requested Tai O Stray Cat Home to give assistance for these baby kittens; therefore, I asked my friend in Mui Wo to provide temporary care for them. Their health conditions were not good and turned out one of them left us on that Saturday night. Due to their bad condition, I made an appointment right away to bring them to go to the clinic for medical treatment next day morning. What I could do was keep praying and hopefully the miracle would be happened for them.

After seeing the doctor, all these three kittens are fine, but they were still too lightly weighted, each of them was only about 300 grams. One of the kittens, he was in the worst health condition; he was also starting to eat and urinated today.

I would like to say thanks to my friend Iris, she is the one in Mui Wo to provide temporary care for these kittens, with her sleepless care for them, they are getting better and better. Besides, I would also like to say thanks to Ms Chan's Reiki team for treating kittens with Reiki until two o'clock in the morning, without their help, I don’t think these kittens could have this peaceful transition. I am thinking, with my friend (Iris) help to take good care of kittens, they will be able to catch up their weight soon. However, in the mean time, we need to work hard to find homes for these kittens.

My friend Iris, the caregiver, told me that all three kittens are getting fatter and bigger; and also they all gained weight. They are so pretty now and their eyes are getting less swollen. However, two of them have issues, one of their eyes would be blind and couldn’t see anymore; you know what this will not be easy to find homes for these handicapped kittens. No matter what, we need to keep praying and work hard to take good care for these kittens and find home for them; and of course, we need your support to for this new challenge.

The Report for Fourth Quarter of 2020

In the last month of 2020, bad news has never been stopped! My friend, she was a cat lover, died at her home in Tai O, and leaving about 20 plus cats there. The neighbour nearby said that she had seen her leave some cats outside of her house a few days ago; probably a few famous breed cats were left alone in Tai O a few days ago, maybe the same batch of her cats.

My friend, she had an emotional illness and I had a similar experience like her; so, I know how did she feel. I know she really loved cats, and most people said she's really crazy about cats. Why did she have 20 plus cats in her house? It is because most of the time those irresponsible owners didn’t want to keep cats and just left those cats to my friend to take care of them.

You know what I really don’t know how to take care of these 20 plus cats, we don’t have enough space, not enough cages. Therefore, I called the SPCA for asking help but they said that they couldn’t help out to catch those 20 plus cats. After a day of that incident, Tai O’s volunteers helped out to clean up a pile of cardboard boxes and garbage in the house of my friend (the deceased person), and brought some cats from there to the campus of Tai O Stray Cat Home.

Fortunately, the SPCA finally sent their team of Animal Rescue to help out to catch cats from my friend’s house or nearby, it was because some of her cats were so scared and escaped from the house. In addition, we kept continuing to place cages outside of or close to my friend’s house to catch those escaped and frightened cats because there were many dogs nearby and put those cats in a dangerous condition. When all rescue works were completed, we contacted people for temporary care and adoption arrangements.

It was my first time to face this sudden and difficult challenge in my life; I was at a loss and so scared, really didn’t know how to deal with it. The entire rescue operation completed successfully within 48 hours because of my friends and volunteers from all walks of life to help out for this disaster. I would like to say thanks to volunteers for their hard works; say thanks to myself that I never give up. Most importantly, I wanted to tell my deceased friend that her cats are so healthy and beautiful; also, I would like to tell her “no worries, we will take care of your cats and find homes for them”.
