The House of the Historic Foundation's purpose is to protect, preserve, maintain, and restore the House of the Temple located in Washington, D.C. The House of the Temple serves as the headquarters for the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, Southern Jurisdiction, U.S.A. Located within the House of the Temple are the museum, archives, and library. The museum has been open to the public since 1915 and houses many unique and important exhibits. These artifacts and important documents have been, and will always be, open and free to the public. This project will improve safety to an historic building that houses a library, museum, and archives of Masonic history. The library is the oldest library that is open to the general public in D.C. The museum houses valuable artifacts that display Freemasonry throughout history. The building is open for guided tours.
