Aid to the suffering Victim's of Flood
By Fr. Thomas P.D - Director
Coat, Bed and Bed Linen distribution at Slum
Aid to the Suffering Victim's of Flood; Karimadom Colony
Kerala, also known as ‘God’ s own Country’, experienced the largest disaster of flood and slide in the month of August 2019. Due to unusually high rainfall, Kerala faced this devastating flood situation. Almost all the dams had been opened since the water level had risen close to overflow level, flooding low-lying areas. Over 400 people died, many people missing and a million were evacuated.
Even today the suffering of Vitim's of Flood continues. Don Bosco Veedu Society could find the Victims of flood even after a year of its occurance. Even though the state government is very active in helping the people in their reconstruction, there were limitation due to the lack of resources including the finance.
Don Bosco Veedu society with the noble contribution from the GlobalGiving Donors could manage to support 10 families to supply with coat, Bed and Bed Linen to underprevilaged families from Karimadom Colony.
This giving was possible with the support of Residence Association of Karimadom Colony. In pursuance of a call, an informal meeting was held at the colony to take some action towards relieving the sufferings of the victims from the slum. After some deliberation, the meeting identifed 10 families who lost their beds and coat in the flood and are lying on the floor durring the night. Those families were identified and carried out the distribution.

Mushrooms - A new Venture
By Thomas PD - Director
All the women in Karimadom slum are now ready! They are ready for any project run by the society as they have assurance that what ever be the micro skill they are trained in, they will surely get an income for their household.
Inspired by a youtube video we thought of mushroom cultivation, a healthy food alternative as well as a steady income for our women. Our search did not go in vain - we got the right person for the training - a retiree from agricultural univerisity and who had done her doctorate in mushroom cultivation. She develops her own seeds at home. She agree to train our women.
As this cultivation require hygene environment, we thought of initiating the process in our own centre. We got ready a room for the same. Woemen from the slum have been trained and they are in the learning process currently. The initial crop has been taken and the interest level of the women are soaring high!
The next steps will be to cultivate the same in the home environment of the women from the slum. The process has been initiated. Milky mushrooms which can grow in tropical warm climate will be cultivated in the homes of these women.
Thanks for your continued support to sustain our developmental programs in the slum
