School Holidays!

Tamar Outing to Sheep Farm
Tamar Outing to Sheep Farm

Greetings from Thailand!

Last week the yearly school holidays started in Thailand and the kids are very happy that they are now off until the beginning of May. Tamar Center is still open as normal - we only close in mid-April for the yearly Thai New Year Festival called Songkran. This means that in the moment we have every day a couple of the mothers helping out in our Nursery. On some days we have up to 12 children in the Nursery and we have split them during the day into two groups - the younger and the older and have different people looking after them.

We are very grateful to the support from Regent International School here in Pattaya, who have adopted our children this year as their social project. They donated a number of toys and supplies for the kids and also raised money. With this money we are taking the kids on three different outings during the school holidays and last Friday they went to the local Sheep Farm to splay with she sheep and enjoy the playground. They had a lot of fun.

We are also very thankful for all your support as in this weeks also all the Mums are coming to us to collect money for the yearly school fees and new Uniforms that have to be payed either at the end of the term or until the start of the next term. Thank to your generosity, all the costs for the kids are covered! Thank you!

Two of our children are making the big step from kindergarten to real school and they have to work a little bit extra during the holidays as they have a two-week introduction course into school life and we are looking forward to see how they will do in the next year.

Have a great week and thank you for your continued support!

Valentine Outreach to the bars in Pattaya

Valentine Outreach

Greetings from Thailand to you all!

Big thank you for your continued support of the work that is happening here in Thailand. In the last months we have been very busy and I just want to give you a short update about all the different things:

-        In January we renovated our Restaurant and started to offer Pizza, Tacos and vegetarian Burgers for sale. This has really helped our restaurant and has given us much more options to train our women in cooking and preparing food

-        On Valentine’s Day we did a special Outreach into the Bar Areas of Pattaya to encourage the women and to invite them for a party to our center. The party was a big success with many women attending and we offered all of them help to leave the bars and to start a new life

-        Some of the women attended than our Mini-Training – a one-week long training program where they can see what Tamar Center is offering to them. They got some basic training in sewing, cooking and hair cutting.

-        In English Class we have also more women attending and we updated our lesson plan and got more creative – as you can see in the pictures – they were learning shapes and colors

-        Otherwise our normal programs are still going on but a bit slower as right now we have the school holidays in Thailand and a number of the women are helping out in our Nursery to look after all the kids

-        In May we are planning our next three-month long vocational and life training and are hoping for 12 women from the bars to attend. We will have special outreaches and more parties happing in April and May to invite many of the girls.

So, much for a short update today. Thank you for your help – without you, we could not do the work here!

Merry Christmas!!!

Tamar Christmas Party
Tamar Christmas Party

Merry Christmas and a blessed 2018 to you all!

Greetings from Pattaya in Thailand. In the last days the temperatures here have dropped to only 17 degrees Celsius – very cold for Thailand. This reminds me about Christmas at home and helps us to get into the Christmas mode. Last night we had our yearly Christmas Party where we first had a nice celebration and later on went to a Seafood Place that all our women love for dinner. It was a lot of fun and we are grateful for the last year!

We were able to help many women leaving sex work and the Bars behind and start a new life. Some, like the lady in the picture finished job trainings with us and some are already employed in other jobs in the City and elsewhere in Thailand. It is a constant joy for us to watch the women change! Yes, it is not always easy and also in the last year we had a number of sad experiences but altogether it was a very good year.

All of this would not have been possible without your support and your help in the last year! Thank you very much for caring for our women and for helping them to step into a new life. Without your support we could not do it!

From everybody at Tamar Center we would like to wish you a blessed Christmas time with your family and friends. Have a good rest and we will continue to update you in the next year!
