Easter surprise visit! !

Easter surprise visit !! (with Jane)
Easter surprise visit !! (with Jane)

I ENVIRONMENT OF THE PROJECT

Siaka school is a boarding school located in Bungoma County and receives 21 deaf and blind children aged 5-18. Most children are orphans and some were abandoned by their parents due to lack of finance to support the children.

Siaka school is only one year old, we thank all the donors who have so far helped this dream come true. Thanks for your help through Siaka school, those lovely children will not feel stigmatized when they grow up and will find a proper place in the society. Disability is not Inability!

III FOCUS ON THE 3 PAST MONTH

Thanks for the tremendous support from GlobalGiving donors and local volunteers. We managed for the last few months to provide the children with:-

-          Food program

We try to feed 21 children 3 times per day from Monday to Sunday. We usually use 8kg of maize, 5kg of beans and 3kg of rice per week without a delay

=>  For now we are able to feed them with meat/fish and fruits once a week. We hope to provide them at least twice a week soon.

 -          Decent clothes

We have also managed to give some of the children and few teachers some clothes since most didn’t have enough clothes.

=> we hope that soon we will be able to give others who didn’t get

On the 3rd of April the team of Tumaini Fund for Economic Development International (NGO supporting the school) came to visit the children, we offered them sweets for Easter, shared a complete meal, songs and great moments with this lovely children, (see pictures attached)

IV CHALLENGE AND UP COMING EVENTS

The school depends entirely on the support from local volunteers (teachers, cooks, and other school assistants) and our generous donors. Still we have a lot of work to do to make this school able to support more vulnerable children.

In order to give them a full education we are still missing :-

  • 15 Braille books/Braille papers
  • 14 white cane
  • Feeding program to continue without any financial constraints in future
  • Supplying electricity
  • Finishing the current classes being built but stopped due to financial constraints.

We are also currently thinking on creating a kitchen garden in order to give the school free food and make it more independent and sustainable. We would receive any suggestions with lots of joy.

Let’s stand with the special children of Siaka School for the Blind and Deaf.

Happy Easter!

Supporting the Glory school in Kiambiu slum in Nairobi

Food program for slum children
Food program for slum children

Welcome to Glory Education Centre !

I environment of the project

Glory Education Centre is a tiny school in the Kiambiu slums of Nairobi. Today the school receives 98 pupils from 3  to 10 years old children coming from the surrounding slums. Our main objective is to provide them good and free education, as it is the first step to going out from rough poverty.

This school is entirely funded by the parents of the pupils and the support from the NGO Tumaini through our generous donors from GlobalGiving. The 3 teachers and all the resources (books, uniforms, pen, tables, board, etc) are paid by the fund raising we manage to get.

II Goals, activities and challenge of Tumaini for the school Glory center

-          Food program

The children go home for lunch as the school is unable to provide them food but most of their family can`t afford a complete and healthy food for them. This is why Tumaini try to support the school and provide as much as possible food for lunch.

=>  For now we are able to bring them twice a month food for the 98 pupils and teachers, we hope to be able to increase this rate very soon.

 -          Uniform program

Tumaini contribute to raise money to provide uniforms for all the pupils as much as possible as some are orphans while for others their families are barely able to afford proper clothes to them.

=>  Currently we successfully managed to provide uniforms for the half of the children , still the other half has to wear their own clothes

 -          Health program

Tunaini invite every year professionals form government and partners, we organize with them vaccination campaign as the pupils family are not able to afford those services.

=>  Until now we successfully managed to vaccinate all of our pupils

 -          School Stationery

Tumaini helps the school to provide for every pupils enough stationaries as books, notebook and pencil but also furniture as table , chairs, board etc.

III focus on the 3 past month

This few months we kept doing our different activities and supplying, for example our last intervention was on the 16th of March: the project leader Pastor David Karanja Kimama and 3 volunteers of Tumaini (Catherine, Antony and Alice) brought for every one chapatis (local bread) and beans. (SEE PHOTOS ATTACHED !)

The pupils were really happy to see Pastor David and his team, they received us with lot of joy, and we thank a lot all of our donors who allowed those smiles and full plates!!

IV Challenge and up coming events

We are looking how we can help the school to get its own structure as the current room is rented and is too small and not proper for such young children and don`t provide them hygienic environment.

This is why Tumaini relies on the help and generosity of all our members, volunteers and donors.

Here comes 2018, Happy New Year Donors/Partners/friends/volunteers..We say Thank you for 2017 Job

Feeding program
Feeding program

Last year, 2017 was just the beginning of Siaka School for the blind. The Special Children of Siaka wishes all our donors/partners/friends a Prosperous 2018. Also thanking all the donors who contributed to this project and made a tremendous outcome in the year 2017.

Siaka special school for the blind didn’t have any braille papers/braille books but as we speak some of them can use braille books/papers for the first time. All thanks to our donors for their well donation.

As we speak few of them can write and read using the braille books/papers. This is happening because of the effort donors are putting forward to see how the children are able to have a conducive environment. Therefore, we want to thank everybody especially our donors for well work done in seeing the project proceeds.

Your donation also has been used to keep the school feeding program alive and is making a big impact by;-

-          Allowing children to be active in class

-          Making smile to the children

-          Promoting unity in class through same food to all children

In 2018 we have aligned many activities to keep us going. Such activities include;-

-          Starting a health program campaign

-          Building a classroom to the children

This January on 3rd, 2018 some volunteers came to see the children and gave them food which will keep the feeding program continue. We say thank you so much for that and we expect many volunteers who will help the needy children.

Special children in Siaka are very happy to see how people donate for them so that, they can learn and feed. All these is because of you donors/partners/friends/volunteers we say thank you so much once again. Be blessed…. This 2018 goes to everyone that is, donors/partners/friends/volunteers who support any child out there. Thank you
