Thank you from Gabriel

Gabriel is 12 years old and was born in Cartagena, Colombia. He and his sisters have been linked to the CDA School since they were babies, because their mother always wanted her children to study and receive a strong education.

Gabriel’s mother has received a lot of support from the school. A few years ago, she faced a very difficult divorce situation, and the social workers accompanied her and her children through this difficult process. She also received help for housing during this time, support which was a great blessing in those days of crisis and solitude. Three years ago, when Gabriel was in third grade, he came to a very critical stage in his behavior. He fought a lot and became very disobedient, which brought much tension not only to his family, but also in school. The school has an agreement with the Cakike Foundation to develop courses in music with children and adolescents in situations of poverty, and that year, as part of the selection process, Gabriel was chosen to start classes. This was a key turning point for Gabriel. He was proud and excited to be chosen, and this completely changed his attitude. Belonging to the group increased levels of demand which led him to change. He has remained in the orchestra, now playing the cello. Belonging to this project has been a great companion to the training he has received at school, because musical training focuses also on teaching discipline and values.

“I like the way the teachers give classes, and that they are always very attentive to all students,” says Gabriel. His mother adds that the social worker has been a great support in every situation of the family, and the accompaniment that Gabriel receives from the project has been key to his success in school.

For this family, the CDA School has been crucial in helping them to overcome every situation that they have had to face. Linking Gabriel to the Cakike Orchestra opened and continues to open many possibilities for Gabriel to continue to grow.

It is stories like Gabriel’s that truly illustrate the power of a strong education, and why your support for our schools is so much appreciated.

Thank you for your generous heart.

Meet Ashly

When you provide a desk for students studying in the CDA God is Love Schools in Colombia, you lift them up, inspire them to dream and study hard, so they can break free from the cycle of poverty.

We would like to introduce you to one of those students. Ashly is a very loving, responsible and collaborative girl. Her favorite hobby is to watch television. Her favorite colors are purple and pink and she likes very much to eat soups.

Ashly currently lives with her brother Daniel (13 years old) and her parents Jhon (33 years old) and Yuri (31 years old), who have lived in common-law marriage for 14 years. Her father works as a security guard. His schedules rotate from Sunday to Sunday. With their financial incomes, they cover basic daily necessities such as rent, food, education, transportation, clothing, bank loans, among others.

Ashly shares quality time with her family. During free time they like to go to the church, go to the cinema and watch soccer games and films. In her spare time, she enjoys doing her homework. The intra-family relationships are very caring, with healthy communication between family members. Ashly would like to spend more time with her parents, but the working hours for her parents are long.

The house in which they live is taken for rent. It has four-stories. Her family lives on the first floor. There are two bedrooms, a living room, kitchen, bathroom and yard.

Ashly dreams of becoming a veterinarian because she is passionate about animals. Her parents´ dream is that Ashly becomes a professional and continues her love of God.

With your support, Ashly is receiving an amazing, holistic, Christian education. Thank you so much for your generous heart.

Arrival of new desks for our school in El Pozon

Desks arrive to our school in El Pozon
Desks arrive to our school in El Pozon

There are many needs in the world, but when we work together it is amazing what we can accomplish. When class begins tomorrow, every one of these desks will be the new study home for a student that attends the CDA God is Love School in the impoverished community of El Pozon, Cartagena, Colombia. These children live in very difficult economic conditions, but the communities and their homes are rich in spirit and capacity. They dream of what is possible in the future, and the education they are receiving is what will make their path out of poverty possible.

We are so thankful for the kind generosity of all who support us in our work and want to share with each of you that your generous hearts truly are making a difference for these children in El Pozon, and the other communities that we serve.

Blessings,

The Conviventia Team
