A big thank you to all of you for your generous donations – we have made some good progress towards our fundraising target!
As you know, this project is aimed at providing emotional support and training to parents of young children with Down syndrome in Guatemala. At regular meetings parents will be taught skills and provided with information to be able to support their child through the crucuial years of early development.
Thanks again for donating to this project. If you are in a position to donate again or to tell your friends and family about our campaign we would really appreciate it. We will keep you updated with our fundraising progress and hope to reach our target soon so we can start supporting families in Guatemala.

African Down syndrome project - update
By Nathan Rowe - Capacity Development Officer
We have started working with a new member organisation in Cameroon, the Aidriking Foundation. Life for many people with Down syndrome in Cameroon is very difficult and it is still a common practice to leave babies with Down syndrome to die, due to superstitions and a lack of understanding of the condition. The Aidriking Foundation is carrying out important work challenging these beliefs and practices, and we will be giving them support with this.
In Tanzania the Pearl of People with Down Syndrome Foundation has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Ministry of Health, Community Development, Gender, Elderly and Children. We are now supporting them to plan how to work with the Ministry to implement the agreements they have reached.
In Ethiopia we have been working to arrange heart surgery for a baby with Down syndrome in partnership with Chain of Hope, a charity based in the UK that works in this field.
We have been working with the Different Travel Company to develop a project in Zambia. Volunteers will have an opportunity to fundraise and visit a project in Zambia run by the Down’s Syndrome Foundation of Zambia. The project will be focused on providing training for parents on important early development issues.
Thank you to everyone that has donated to this project, your generous donations enable us to continue supporting this important work in countries across Africa!

Supporting parents in Nepal - fundraising progress
By Nathan Rowe - Project Leader
Young boy with Down syndrome
Thank you to everyone who has donated generously to this important project – we are around a third of the way to our fundraising target! We will be pushing our fundraising campaign hard to ensure we are able to start the project as soon as possible.
As you know, this project is aimed at supporting parents of young children with Down syndrome in remote areas of Nepal. The areas we are aiming at are very poor and cut off from the rest of the country for much of the year due to being in the mountains and extreme weather in the winter. This means many families have no support or information on how best to care for their young child with Down syndrome. This project will make a huge difference to the lives of these children, giving them the best possible start in life.
Thanks again for donating to this project. If you are in a position to donate again or to tell your friends and family about our campaign we would really appreciate it. We will keep you updated with our fundraising progress and hope to reach our target soon so we can start supporting families on Nepal.
