Mission

The Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) was founded in 1971 with the mission of fighting hate and bigotry and seeking justice for the most vulnerable members of our society. Using litigation, education, and other forms of advocacy, the SPLC works toward the day when the ideals of equal justice and equal opportunity will be a reality. As an internationally renowned civil rights organization, the SPLC has dedicated the last 49 years to uprooting bigotry from America's institutions and to dismantling all forms of structural racism that marginalize communities of color.
