NNEDV was formed in 1990 when a small group of domestic violence victim advocates came together to promote federal legislation related to domestic violence. Over the next four years, it became an alliance of domestic violence shelter programs and statewide groups and coalitions against domestic and sexual violence across the country. Today, NNEDV has grown to include eight national projects, while continuing to train and support the 56 statewide and territorial coalitions against domestic violence. Over the next four years, it became an alliance of domestic violence shelter programs and statewide groups and coalitions against domestic and sexual violence across the country. Today, NNEDV has grown to include eight national projects, while continuing to train and support the 56 statewide and territorial coalitions against domestic violence. We also further public awareness of domestic violence and change beliefs that condone intimate partner violence. Our Vision: NNEDV is a social change organization dedicated to creating a social, political and economic environment in which violence against women no longer exists. Our Mission: NNEDV is a membership organization of state and territorial domestic violence coalitions that empowers survivors and their children through a network of national, state, and community-based organizations. We provide leadership, advocate for effective public policy, improve institutional and cultural systems, share knowledge nationally and internationally, and change societal attitudes about domestic violence. Our signature programs: --Empower domestic violence survivors to lead independent lives free from abuse. --Support the 56 U.S. state/territory coalitions against domestic and sexual violence. --Advance economic empowerment and financial literacy for domestic violence survivors and their allies. --Improve high-profile media coverage of domestic violence cases. --Educate survivors and their allies about safe technological practices and how abusers misuse technology. --Provide technical assistance and support to transitional housing programs across the country. --Address the intersection between HIV/AIDS and domestic violence. --Build the capacity of local and state/territory coalitions against domestic and sexual violence. --Provide state-specific legal information and support in English and Spanish to victims and survivors of abuse. --Advocate for legislation that effectively holds perpetrators accountable and strengthens services for survivors and their children. NNEDV MAKES DOMESTIC VIOLENCE A NATIONAL PRIORITY. We are the leading national voice for survivors of domestic violence and their advocates. As a membership and advocacy organization of state/territory coalitions, allied organizations and supportive individuals, we work closely with our members to understand the ongoing and emerging needs of victims and advocacy programs. Then we make sure those needs are heard and understood by policymakers at the national level. NNEDV CHANGES THE WAY SOCIETY RESPONDS TO DOMESTIC VIOLENCE. We offer programs and initiatives that address the complex causes and far-reaching consequences of domestic violence. Through cross-sector collaborations and innovative corporate partnerships, we offer support to victims of domestic violence who are escaping abusive relationships - and empower survivors to build new lives. NNEDV STRENGTHENS DOMESTIC VIOLENCE ADVOCACY AT EVERY LEVEL. We provide state/territory coalitions with critical information and resources. From training and technical assistance to innovative programs and strategic funding, we bring much-needed resources to local communities. At our national and regional meetings, members share information and ideas with us and with each other, working together to develop comprehensive solutions.
