To empower local leaders to end extreme poverty in eastern Congo
Ending Extreme Poverty in DRC through Agriculture
by Mavuno

Mavuno utilizes agriculture as a means to decrease food insecurity and drive economic opportunity in eastern Congo. In 2015, Mavuno's beta village of 100 households harvested 4.24 hectares of land, cultivated over 41.7 tons of crops, and collectively made over $4,766 from crop sales! Additionally, Mavuno saw a significant reduction in food insecurity and major improvements in community cohesion and quality of life. In 2016, Mavuno plans to scale its model to an additional 300 households. project reportread updates from the field
Livestock Economic Development Program
by Mavuno

Mavuno's primary goal for the livestock program is: support the development of proper animal shelters, provide technical support, and optimize livestock activities to generate wealth. Mavuno employs a full-time livestock supervisor, supplies a plot of land for grazing, and builds cages as needed. Members purchase their own animals based on their market research, and they are responsible for feeding, watering and caring for their animals. Animals are either sold or kept for consumption. project reportread updates from the field
