A Silent Revolution - Helping the helpless

The final exams at the end of the academic year 2017-18 at Shoshit Samadhan Kendra, the fully free English medium residential school for the poorest of the poor, was held in the month of March 2018. The overall performance of the school was very satisfactory with some classes achieving excellence. Classes IV, V and VII averaged more than 90%. The annual results of classes X & XII are awaited. These exams were external exams held by the Central Board of Secondary Education of India. The results are expected in June, 2018.

The process of taking new admissions for the academic year 2018-19 commenced in March 2018. Groups of school teachers were sent to the remote villages in the state of Bihar, some villages being as far away as 200 kms from Patna, the state capital where SSK is located. The children recruited are from the poorest of poor families in the musahar (rat-eaters) community. Some photographs of new admissions with their parents and the family hut in the background are attached. The extreme level of poverty is evident. This year the school is admitting 100 musahar (rat-eaters) children instead of 50.
